If I’m in the field, I leave snakes alone. Anywhere near a house, though, and anything venomous dies. I have a zero tolerance policy for venomous creatures and the potential for kids around a house. I typically have my EDC and a spare mag loaded with personal defense rounds, and about 50-100 rounds of cheap lead flat nose or FMJ rounds in the truck for shooting paper. The spare rounds are in case I decide to shoot somewhere. I’ve had a lot of times where someone hasn’t had the proper environment, or supervision, to feel comfortable shooting a pistol. I will gladly swap out both mags of nice rounds for cheap practice rounds to show them the ropes, or to just do a little shooting with a Buddy or two down a back road or on someone’s place. You never know when the opportunity may present itself to have a little fun, might as well have the supplies to enjoy.

Like the gents you quoted, I carry some tools. Not because I’m afraid of breaking down, but because I want to be prepared in case I do.

For those that EDC responsibly, they’re not afraid of being a target, they just want to be prepared in case they are. Choosing ‘not to be a target’ doesn’t mean you won’t be. You may minimize the chances because of your awareness and actions, but nothing eliminates that possibility.

Heck yeah I keep M&M's in the cargo hold (and the three or four PayDay candy bars underneath). They don't melt because of the coating and it's the perfect desert to go with an MRE !

Must be a Texas thing. We teach our kids how to deal with snakes without killing them. There's also not that much room around here to just stop and crank off rounds. Even in the country, there's a house close enough by that someone's going to call the cops and complain. Easier, safer to just go out to the range with the boys where we don't have to worry about the sheriffs showing up on account of granny hearing gunfire. Or accidentally shooting someone's cow, as a super genius cousin of mine did when we were young and dumb(er).

I may have to try this out. I left a bag of gummy bears out there once and they turned into a big gooey squeezy pack. Lol.

Flashlight, Leatherman, extra pocket knife, lighter, hand sanitizer, masks (still mandatory here in Ontario for now), a lifestraw, 23" axe, folding shovel, fixed blade, flint and striker, knife sharpener, first aid kit, booster cables, tow strap, shackle, screwdriver set, a few pliers, Jerry Can, ratchet straps, bungee cords, tape, zip ties, 50ft rope, tarp, trailer hitch. I think that's about it

All is either in the center console, or behind the rear seats (jerry can is in bed)

The chocolate does melt. The candy shell just keeps it inside. It then solidifies after it cools.

Seasonal clothing items, ie sun hat, gloves, spare jacket, flannel shirt, even a pair of underwear in case things get shitty.
I say skip jumper cables and get a jump box, too many a-holes out there won’t help a guy out sometimes.

I kinda get ware you and others come from, in the end to me it's a personal decision and neither side should be dogging the other. I carry when I feel the need. I live in a constitutional carry state with an option for a permit, I've carried when I wished I hadn't and the other way around. The permit allows carry into the neighboring state that's more restricted and I don't have the intention of dealing with that. The dangerous / injured animal thing is my usual reason to carry. But carry is that it's on me not anywhere in the vehicle. I have many friends in law enforcement both state and federal and versed in the use of deadly force.
