I appreciate it. I guess its also a bonus now knowing that the key that is secured in the remote start box is not a functioning one anymore. Always bothered me knowing that there was a key technically locked in the truck, even if i’m the only one that knows exactly where it is and how you have to very carefully extract it.

Dealer quoted $43 for a blank key and $137/hr to program/cut it

Yeah, dealers will get you pretty heavily on keys. I had my keys stolen on my old Silverado and they quoted me $1500 to do full lock and key replacement. And that was 12 years ago. I'm sure it's even worse now

I went through that when I got my '15 last year, I only had the valet key and the selling stealership tried to tell me the truck didn't have a keyless entry even though a quick VIN check on Toyota.com showed the truck had the convenience package that included a keyless entry. I got a blank from my local dealer ( Jerrys' Toyota) and had Home Depot cut the blank then used a youtube video to program it in the parking lot of the stealership. The vid was posted by a Toyota tech and it was as simple as key in-out/ on/off in a very specific sequence then you hold the "lock" button for a few seconds and the locks will cycle to let you know it's programmed.

I finally got a sleeping platform built for the 4runner, I will be leaving for the Alpine Loop and Black Bear Pass in a day or 2. I need to get some thick memory foam so that my back doesn't lock up on me, but I'm feeling like this is going to work out ok. This was my 1st time building anything like this, and as such there are definitely improvements to be made but that's just a part of the learning process. I can still remove this from the 'runner by myself ( although a helper would make it MUCH easier ). I can fully stretch out and have a few inches of head room to spare. I made a removable head rest extension so that I can move the passenger seat all of the way back incase I would need to bail out of the vehicle for any reason.

The next pics will be from somewhere on the Alpine Loop.

You mean the key? Or the key fob?

programming the fob is easy, i’ve had to do a few of those. I thought the key would be a dealer only thing…

fob is what I found. My Taco doesn't have a programmable key.. Try a locksmith or an independent Toyota garage, anything to avoid getting raped by the farking stealerships..

    Work in progress.
Go to, "Poptronics," in Baltimore. They have a great selection of foam. I'd recommend a layer of 1/4" closed cell foam on the base, then the foam on top of that.

For better or worse, I jumped in on the RRW/trail Tacoma sliders group buy (30% off). Even after seeing some negative reviews and them being blocked from TW (could not figure out why but think customer service issues). 900 for DOM sliders, powder coated and full step plates is really good. I also really liked the way the top plate looks and they are 8°. Lead time 3-6 weeks but I don’t trust any lead times.

Nice, I somewhat regret not pulling the trigger on them last October/November. I remember they were about $700-800 with a powder coat but I think I read the same reviews you did, which detracted me from getting them. hahha
