@JoeCOVA. Not trying to pick an argument. Just trying to enlighten to the larger situation.

Even the local guys will run out of material.

I suspect they are working through on-hand inventory. New supply coming in is likely on longer than normal lead times.

Thanks coach - just don't bench me. For the record, it was you who said people are "whining like children" over "unnecessary trinkets". While you're trying to keep up - I noted that almost everything is an unnecessary trinket. Unless of course, you "build" water food and shelter when you're not busy saving us with your multi-million dollar industrial and scientific projects. How many "unnecessary" trinkets do you own? Care to see how much your life would suck without them? See, between all those super-important things that you build, there are literally tens of thousands of small businesses that feed their families and pay their mortgages selling or producing "trinkets" like the vendors on this forum. Before you go dismissing their stuff as unnecessary trinkets, and call people who have legitimate gripes children, maybe you should think about that. Or...maybe you should pay your lawn guy every month and see how shitty it is to have 3-foot tall grass in your yard, 3 months later, while you pay, because his work is unnecessary. Regardless of what it is, when you pay for something, you should get it as advertised, and if you make that something - be it an incubator or a left-handed screwdriver, you should deliver it - as advertised. I don't think anyone is complaining that their yellow farfenflugel is not as yellow as they'd like it to be. They're complaining because they're (in many cases) a few thousand bucks out of pocket, 6 months into a 14-week lead time, and no resolve in sight. Thus endeth sermon. Please continue to design space stations, your time on this unnecessary forum is being wasted.

    All, this is simple economics.

If you order an item and the stated lead time is exceeded, then you have a choice. Accept the new lead time or cancel the order.

The most effective tool to drive corrections is cancelled orders, because this hits the $$ supply of the supplier.

Accepting the longer lead time has little to no impact on the supplier. It just becomes future business and $$$.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
Yes there is a supply chain issue it's not huge but the stuff us "Off road" Fabricators use like DOM tubing and HRPO sheet are in extremely short supply. Planning is key some materials and thicknesses are months out. I've only slipped up once so far forgetting to order a thickness that takes 4 months to get right now and my customers were not happy.

We buy from the mills in full truck loads and we have been put on allocation with a tonnage cap for every 90days but it's plenty to supply our demand.

I think the raw material cost is the biggest hit the small shops like us take. Thankfully we do everything in house and I was informed early from the mills about the rises so we doubled down and bought nearly a years supply of material in December last year and I'm so glad I did. it's abled me to hold our pricing with everything drastically rising around us.

This inflation won't be transitory. I don't think the price of some stuff will ever go back down.

    Agreed.

Remember when airline baggage was free until gas prices went crazy in 2008, despite gas prices falling and even going for -$ per barrel we still had baggage fees.

Took 8 weeks for me to get my Stage 2 Deaver springs. What was supposed to be 2-3 weeks turned out to that. Very happy when finally installed though. :)

That link of chain is still full. It's a few links back that's the issue.

I did as well, now have been waiting for Advan RGD2 wheels since February... I'm seeing delay in all kinds of industrial components, especially anything electronic that might have chips in it.

I bought one in May. They said 4-6 weeks but I received sooner. Honestly, this isn’t bad at all compared to some of the crazy lead times I’ve seen/heard of from others recently. Just gotta plan those trips accordingly! Just wish I would have picked up the DAC tent at the same time. I’m too lazy to make my own

Has CBI said why they are taking long? Is it a raw material supply issue or simply not enough capacity at their shop?
