I'm in the process of doing a Chrisfix super coolant flush, was about to swap out the original thermostat with a new OEM one, my Haynes manual says to replace the thermostat gasket when installing a new thermostat.

Does everyone replace the gasket when replacing the thermostat?

I hope my local Toyota dealership has one in stock, as the OEM thermostat didn't include one, but I agree, the gasket is so inexpensive and it will give me peace of mind too.

Edit: My name is Mark and I'm also from Massachusetts.

Does it have a gasket? Or does it have an O ring?

Either way, a new one is in order.

Surprised the Chrisfix didn't address this.

The last time I did a super flush, I removed the thermostat as Chris did when flushing it with distilled water and it had an O ring if I remember correctly.

Chrisfix had to scrape the old gasket off, so it wasn't reusable. When I ordered the OEM thermostat I took it for granted they would include a new gasket. I don't think it will hurt to run distilled water for a few more days till I can pick up the gasket.

    Not a problem at all.

Well if you hold your new thermostat in your hand and look at it
    with your eyeball

you may notice there is a new O-ring in the groove, as shown here

Nevertheless, good luck finding this magical gasket you speak of that probably does not exist
