ATF Temp Diff between a V6 and 4Cyl.

Hi!

I just want to throw out there something i have observed between a V6 Prerunner and a 4Cyl Prerunner.

I had a 2000 4Cyl Tacoma Prerunner for the last 3 yrs and recently also bought a V6 2001 Tacoma Prerunner. I also had a scanguage for the last 2 yrs and have been constantly monitoring status as i drive.

I noticed that the 4Cyl AT tends to run hotter than the V6. I drive about 11mi to work in rush hour traffic and by the time i reach work, its averages around 175 F regardless of weather. for the V6, average is around 150F. I did notice for both that the lesser the traffic, the lower the temps.
I also noticed that going up the hills and mountains. the 4Cyl ATF heats up faster than the V6.

I originally figured that the 4Cyl would have ran cooler.
Is it the gearing? is the 4Cyl working harder than the V6 in the climbs? or just in general? Why do you suppose this is so?

I use regular ATF for both tho the V6 has a new Radiator.

Anyone else noticed the same?

The tranny temps are dependant on the fluid cooling through the radiator. It may be that the cooling system on the 4 cyl truck is less effective.

just to be safe, i checked out the parts list that was on the net and found that they are actually using the same Radiator. It could be also that the one on the 4cyl i have is just old.

another possibility might be that since its a 4Cyl, it takes longer to get up to speed and so the TC is in use longer so its hotter compared to the V6.

I do notice that the wather temp on both are are operating at around 195F during this time of the year. they both have new Coolant and thermostats.

Anyone else with a scanguage that can share their observations?
