Tacoma OEM Skid Plates?

Anyone own a 05'-08' Taco with an OEM Toyota skid plate? I just ordered one for my truck but was dumb enough not to even ask if they were a good product. So are they? Also, do they come with all the necessary hardware for installation?

 

I have one. I think it looks good, but that's about it.

I don't think if I did any kind of off-roading I would feel confident it would prevent any real damage from occurring. I believe it does come with the necessary hardware to just bolt right on.

 

My 08 has the factory skidplate. I 4-wheel in hills/rocks, & it has dents & scratches, but no punctures. It holds up fine. You just need to watch where your going.

There is the silver OEM accessory skid plate available. Much heavier & mounts 1/2" lower.

Ummm....thats what I got was the silver skid plate from Toyota. What color is yours? Is yours 1/8 inch thick also?

 

The one that came with the truck is black, probably 1/8".

The silver one (OEM accessory) I looked at seemed to be about 1/4"-3/8"

 

Oh okay. Well I got the same one as the torenapart.

 

I ordered one for my truck too. I'm almost possitive its 1/8" thick. I'll be honest, I got it for it's looks. Can't comment on its performance.

 

I could be off on the measurements. It's been awhile since I looked at it. The stock one is definately much thinner.

 

The stock is not much better than a tin can. The acessory one (aluminum) is okay, I have put dings and dents in mine but they hold up well enough. They are not for hard-core wheelers.

 

If you are wheeling enough to harm the skid plate then you are trying to tear up your truck!

Shit Chris, I dunno. After a bottle of Crown it sounded good. I think what I was trying to say is the Dam Toyota skid plate (aftermarket) is a good piece of gear. And yes it comes with all the things you need to install it. Fuk me I am drunk and happy!

 

Lets just say it's better than not having any skid plate.

It will protect as good as some, but not as good as others.

It protects better than the stock one, but not as good as a bud built. But if you're looking for real protection get someone to weld a 1/2" seteel plate under there. Then you can drive with reckless abandon.

But seriously, the aluminum skid plate is more for light offroading, that for the most part you will try and avoid making contact with anything. After all it looks so nice you wouldn't want to scratch it.

 

Spray it!! scratch it up & touch it up.

 

I like your lights and grill .

 

I like the All Pro Offroad skid plates. They are pretty beefy and strong. I'm hoping that Santa can squeeze one into my stocking . Where I go wheeling, Its a lot of rocks and cut trees, (Rausch Creek, PA...converted coal mine) so a beefier skid plate is better than a punctured oil pan!
