What's going on guys! I've been a long time lurker of TW but never made an account until now so this is my first post. Anyway, I am an engineer from KY and I have been messing around with modeling a custom shift knob for the 3rd gen Tacomas, and decided to post some very early renderings to see if there would be any interest out there should I actually end up making a few.

    sample1.jpg sample2.jpg sample3.jpgsample4.jpg

I just got done (like 10 minutes ago) modeling these and I plan on trying to 3d print some prototypes this week to test fitment and durability. Should the project actually get somewhere and I start taking custom orders, the red bits can be changed to any color you like, but that's something that should be discussed in the future haha.

    Thanks guys!

Kind of cool are these something you are going to sell on here or other spots? If so I would try to get a Vendor Status on here by messaging @tcBob and I am not sure but I believe others have had copyright issues with the TRD on items.

I planned on only selling them here for the time being, just doing small runs due to the fact that theyll be 3d printed, and given there's enough interest of course. As for the vendor status I saw when I made my account that there is a waiting period for selling things on here so I'll have to do some research on that. And yeah copyright never even crossed my mind, worst case scenario I can remove the TRD, wouldn't be that big of a deal.

It looks pretty good to me. I would have been interested if you offer other colors with the black to mach Tacoma colors somewhat close. I however just ordered the Teton workshop one in grey/black so you're here a day late unfortunately.

That Teton workshop is making products that are hard not to purchase - I'm sure you'll love that! Count me jealous!

I was eye balling it for a while and shift knobs came up in the $100 mod thread so it reignited my interest. The photos of it looks great and really unique to me. I can't wait. I was looking a the meso customs one with the ect switch too but it didn't come in grey and I don't think I tow enough to make it worth all that.

I am right there with you! The meso looked pretty nice, I am KDMax tuned so I have to be completely stopped anyways to activate ECT so that button would be wasted. Would be cool to turn that button into something else eventually, but let's be honest I will require more than one aftermarket switch as long as I stay employed so I will end up needing a panel anyways.

You can wire the 2nd button for a garage opener or something like that. But I don't have a garage.

What is the mesh lattice on top and in the front of the shift knob? Is it intended to be rough texture stippling like custom gun frames?

I'm pretty sure the TRD on the front of the knob would be nearly impossible to see, due to awkward angles.

I can mess around with the placement and try to get it more noticeable. Definitely open to feedback like that from everyone though.

    Update,

This is the first time I've sat down at my computer since I posted originally so it's a small update, but I wanted to share the progress. I ordered the resin to 3d print a prototype and it is coming today, so hopefully I can get a good print finished and on here by tomorrow.

As for everyone's feedback and ideas, please keep it coming the more the merrier. I relocated the TRD from the front to the sides so that it will be more noticeable, and I think it looks way better than I had it originally, so thanks for the input @Bertw192. I also changed the colors around a little bit to show what it would look like matching different tacomas.

    shmorgage.jpg Sample5.jpg

I also want to apologize for the terrible render quality they're not even renderings they're just screenshots from the software so please ignore the jagged edges and low resolution.
But damnit you quicksand taco guys have me jealous once again :(
    See you tomorrow hopefully!

Good stuff! I think offering many color choices will be a great selling point. As with most, we like to color match our truck or interior and something other than black is a great variety. One thing that you'd want to make sure, if you haven't already, ensure that the knob is able to 'clip' into the existing hardware for an OEM fit. The boot collar will just pull up and snap into the knob.

Looking forward to the finished product!
