I hate when you guys are right - My old SR5 versus my new Off-road

Nope. Only the 6mt OR and Pro have it. The OR/Pro autos have multi terrain select which is basically an adjustable ATRAC. The SR5 only has an on-road traction control system called TRAC which functions similarly but it’s not as aggressive.

 

I found some Bilstein shocks and TRD springs take offs from an OR and put them on the SR5. A huge difference! The truck sways side to side a little more, but the trade off was worth it. Pot holes and speed bumps are a joke now. The truck is now an awesome daily. You really do need off road suspension for downtown Seattle streets . If I were to truly off road in the mountains I'd prefer the OR with upgraded suspension beyond the 4600s.

 

Anyone that says they’re fine with an SR5 just doesn’t know what they don’t know.

 

Anyone that doesn't have plans do to do any serious off-roading is fine with an SR5, otherwise they over bought.

 

Colored bumpers, flares, nicer options. I’ll take it. And mines paid off.

 

Buy what you want, and it’s make you a happy no matter what it’s made or set up for, go for it.

I've got a '21 OR that should be built this week and I'll be leaving a '17 SR5. I don't do any wheeling but I wanted a sunroof & "leather" heated seats. Wouldn't have switched but got a very healthy raise when I changed jobs so I'm treating myself to my first truly new vehicle.

 

Wha? Doesn’t the sport come with those options? Why pay for a rear locker and Atrac/mts to have leather seats?

 

I have a poorly draining driveway that in spring turns into mud with the consistency of porridge half a foot deep for much of its 250' length. Still it can't throw anything at the Taco that the TRD OR AC M/T, with rear locker and front Atrack, can't handle.

 

In most cases it's probably cheaper to buy an SR5 and have an aftermarket rear locker installed than buying an OR. I'm sure crawl control is a nice feature and ATRAC is nice as well.

IMO, the number 1 reason by far to buy a TRD trim is for the 6MT.

 

Correct, an identical Sport is $502 less. That said, on central Maine roads the Sport's firmer ride would be annoying.

But more importantly, who paying for it?

 

I prefer chrome bumpers, but have the matching color flares to.My days of any hard off-roading are done, just was time after 19 years for a new 4wd truck...plus like yourself its been all paid off. That imo is the best part.

 

You ought see the 2 mile drive i have to do on my dirt road at my own risk every spring here cause the town puts up the saw horses with the road closed. You wanna mention mud, and boulders we have plenty till the town later on gets their heavy equipment in their. I even buried my tundra once on that road. This sr5 is amazing, its extremely capable on that road vs the tundra. I really can't see needing a trd or unless your into a lot more nasty stuff.

I have the SR5 with v6 and 4 wheel drive. I did like the OR and would maybe have got one but it was more coin and I was offered a good fair price also it was July 2020 so trucks were coming in but kinda slow. I reasoned that I didn't need a rear locker since I didn't off road a lot. My Jeep Liberty CRD didn't have any of that and I was usually ok with out a locker.
I did get a double cab and mostly for carrying people, namely my mother and sister who don't work and are not able to own a vehicle. now my mom unfortunately is in a nursing home because she isn't able to walk and the sister looks like she cant live alone and hopefully will be in a group home soon. I don't have people to haul to the stores with me weekly anymore. I could easily get an access cab now. I do like my truck and the double cab is still ok but if something happens to it that I needed to replace it id get an access cab OR most likely next time.

 

I did my first at 7500 miles because I qualify as ‘extreme duty use’ . Do whatever you want, but the engine, oil and filter can go 10k without issue. Days of 1k break in intervals are long gone.

My previous Tacoma hit over 200k miles without issue using the recommended service intervals. Mobil1 and OEM filters.

OP just buy any reputable 265/75/16 C Load tires and you'll be good to go. Or go skinnys, but im not knowledgeable on what load range you can get with those

 

Not really, using the most common configuration the SR5 is only about $1900 less than a Sport/Off Road.
