Spent today with my brother in the Lamar Valley cathing these wild native Yellowstone Cutthroat. We didn't keep count after a certain point. The hoppers in the valley were insane and the fish there were all on dry hoppers today too. Not even fishing the dropper just pure rising fish...IMG_8998.jpg

Unfortunately I have not been able to get out fishing over the last three weeks. The rivers are flowing too high and are dangerous for wading here in Connecticut. We have gotten over 12" of rain in 14 days which is about 2 months of rain. They have had to increase the flows on the dams to get the reservoirs below flood stage. Farmington River is running at 2400cfs when it's usually 500cfs in July.
Housatonic River is around 3000cfs compared to 650cfs.

Caught a tiny little bass on my new TFO LK legacy 7wt rod with Redington rise rod on a clouser minnow. He ate it right as I started the back cast. No pics of the fish but the new rod is awesome. A good bit heavier than my Orvis Clearwater 5wt but I feel like I could cast it a mile.

Not too much exciting on the fishing here lately, just paddling around on the kayak and catching bluegills. Staying busy on the vice though, restocking my egg and nymph boxes for the fall and winter runs. Streamers are on deck, although those boxes are still in pretty decent shape after the spring.

Muskie fishing is hard. Muskies on a fly is even harder. My efforts paid off on Friday with my first one of 2021. Fun size. Waiting for cooler weather again.

Hit a favorite smallmouth stream on Friday. Warm day, but found quite a few cooperative fish. Cliche, but the big one really did get away this time. Good day on the water with a good friend.

There's a reason they are known as The Fish of 10000 Casts.

I've never been able to catch one when I was targeting them. Caught a few while fishing for smallies though. Fun to catch a 3 foot fish in kayak.

That's really not true anymore. There are more muskies now than probably any time in history. It's really not uncommon for fly anglers on quality muskie waters to land multiple fish in a day, or at least have multiple eats. You can increase your odds by fishing in rivers where the fish are in mostly predictable places and fish tend to be more aggressive to eat. In my case I was fishing a 2400 acre lake and blind casting a massive weed flat. That's the hard way to do it, but my previous musky came the same way so....

    Caught this bluegill in RMNP....

No just kidding I but I did catch it and a few of it's friends this morning on a hike with the wife in RMNP. The fire burn scar from last year is quite a sight to behold on the way in. The fish seemed to be healthy though. Native likely not wild if I had to guess
