Kimbo Camper BS and Mods

I'm wondering if this is something multiple Kimbo owners are interested in, it could be done in a 'group order'. That could possibly help defray some of the cost? I know I would be interested!

 

Finally replaced the stuffing with 4in foam, top layer is memory foam. Scored a new mattress topper on Craig’s List for $45 a while back and cut her open. It’s was a tight but worth it. Would like to cut out a custom shape for a dog bed too.

The lady will be crafting some new fabric covers at some point, but leather sounds awesome.

Yeah man, it’s been great. The fact that you can design your own table size and shape is great. You can also just grab a Husky tool box table top from Home Depot too. The spot I have it mounted is working very well for us. Works as a night stand next to the bed at night and still can add counter space for preparing food by the kitchen. I did add a horizontal support bar in that storage box to support the weight when the table is loaded. Can send a picture of you need. In VA visiting fam.

Well if anyone is wanting a Kimbo clone or Kimbo's brother from another mother, here you go. Pretty impressed with the craftsmanship here. The sunroof/roof access above the bed is kinda neat unless you're trying to sleep in, might need a shade. Love the wood everywhere but damn it has to be heavy. Also love that sherpa material for the cushions. I'm sure someone will be very happy with it.

Wow, that's way better than some other stuff I've seen but is def a home build - I'd be curious how structural it is without the struts inside, how is the insulation held in, those outrigger mounts do not look up to the task, and no loft window? Oh, and aluminum welds crack...so there is that.

 

It would be hard for me to build something like that and not use it too.

 

For sure - it would be interesting to know the weight. From the ad - he used top of the line components inside.

 

Nice, I really like the skylight idea, similar to what scout is doing with rooftop access from inside. Also really dig the amount of windows going on, one thing I wish kimbo had was one more window on the drivers side of the camper so there is a 360° view from inside the camper and for increased air flow. I emailed the guys at kimbo about possibly adding a 4th window and was told they aren't offering it at this time, something along the lines of it compromising the structural integrity.

Looks like a pretty solid home build tho, not sure I would fork over 22K for it as is, without any kind of warranty or anything but looks like the next best thing to a kimbo or scout without the lead time.

 

Yeah structural integrity is key. Took 3 prototypes for the final Kimbo I believe.

 

Definitely Kimbo inspired. Cool that someone had the skill and inspiration to build it. Should be priced at guinea pig level though, not full pop retail.

 

That homemade kimbo is pretty cool I gotta be honest. I still prefer the original for sure, but damn cool either way. Also, I think having leather interior in the camper would be sweet. I have an Aussie shepherd who sheds so much. Leather would be great for the dog hair situation. Hope you guys are doing well!
