I've seen a couple post's about the the 3rd gen's not being a small truck. So I checked my first new pickup spec's 1976 Chevy Silverado single cab 8' box wheel Base 4 '' more than my 21dcsb and wider. So this is basically a full size truck from the 70's but with more hp than a 454 at 4000 rpms, can someone make sense of this.

Crash standards and demand for increased interior room would explain the size similarities in my eyes.

Power similarities id assume being alot higher compression in tacos and 454 being more about torque then horsepower. Plus tolerance getting tighter and advancements with engineering and such.

I thought that it was just because humans are getting taller and fatter.

Now check the specs on a tundra to your old truck, yet parking spaces stay the same size

Because people want more more more!
The size of houses has gone up too. My 70s era home is 1750 sq feet. That's about half the size of an average new home.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
In 1970 the average breast size was a 34B, today the average is 36DD. Just sayin'.

Neighbors son-in-law has a Tundra that's a few years old.
When he visits he parks it right in front of my Tacoma.

Side-by-side they are almost identical in size.

And as mentioned above, oddly parking spaces stay the same size LOL ...
I always park far-far away from wherever I'm going and look of a spot where the curb occupies one side.
Right next to handicapped spots are good to as they are usually very wide and you can eat just a hair of
that space and still be legal and protective.

Hmmmm... now that my doctor has told me my heart is in hell and I'm overdue for a cardiac I wonder if
that qualifies for a handicap placard ... I'll ask LOL

36-24-36 was a realistic measurement. Asses these days are exceeding 50". Twerking can cause geologic shift.

Thanks for the comments, I should have been a little bit clearer. The towing capacity on the 454 and 350 were higher, we complain about the power, and the load capacity was a bit better on the older ones. , Did they change how horse power is rated, are the transmissions not geared fo the work loads or is it more to do with cafe standards for milage. My gripe is i filled the box with camping gear, and water. I was sagging almost to the overloads . 6gal water < 50lbs, food and sleeping bags for camping at our family cabin. My 19 SR didn't hang as low. With the same weight.

What size truck would you like? Tall, Venti or Grande?

Jokes aside, current Tacomas are about the same size as 2000s Tundras.

Yes I know. It just seems like the SR5 with the electric seat and electric rear window, seems like it dropped the capacity a bit. Got more high beam flashes then before when I had the SR. I'm guessing people who tow would. Explain it better.

there are several different 454 engines so just comparing 454 against 454s is a minefield

comparing pickup trucks over a 40 year span is apples to cucumbers

look at the diff in in toyotas

i remember when U had to buy the rear bumper.................they were built & sold w/o a rear bumper

why have a silverado 76 or now ????
