manual swap

how hard would it be to do a manual swap...?

No personal experience, but I would think the mechanical end of it would just be a matter of locating a wrecked truck with everything there to swap over. The potentially difficult part would be the electrical. Probably need a new computer and possibly wiring harness as well.

Finding a whole donor truck would be best because you are going to need the pedals, center console, etc.

No pilot bearing on a six speed, so no worries about there being a place to put one like on some other vehicles.

 

I think substituting "absolutly" for "probably" would be the better note here.

 

Did it on a Dodge once, it wasnt much fun.

Older cars, like the others have stated, easyish, newer cars not so much. Too many computer type thingys to worry about.

Take a lot of investigation anyway. There are wrecked cars out there you can salvage almost anything from. Did a couple swaps on some fairly recent model cars. Had to change a couple things beyond the obvious; wasn't for me, so I didn't do the leg work and research. Sounded like the hardest thing was finding the parts, especially the dash parts to bolt in a clutch pedal. After the guy showed up at my garage with all the parts in the trunk it was a full weekend job but fairly straight forward. Its knowing and getting what you need that's the killer.

 

If you desperately want the manual, you might as well sell that truck and buy a manual then. You surely won't save any money by attempting to switch out the transmissions yourself.

I have a 6spd. I never thought I would ever want an automatic, but I must say the Tacoma occasionally drives me to want one.
