I caught a dose of sellers remorse. I sold my yak and all my gear in preparation for moving next month…

I sold the whole bundle to the first buyer within hours of posting, looking out at old big blue I may have sold it too early…

Lucky you can keep em, down here the season has been terribly reduced.

1-14 Sep. Year before last it was open all year. Last year, six weeks in the fall.

Still 4 fish/day, guess we’re fortunate that wasn’t reduced to a bag limit of 1 per day. That was under consideration.

I don’t know what data the NC fisheries authorities have that’s triggering these reductions but apparently flounder has been a concern for years. It’s a complicated issue here because we have three species and they’re in different situations. Supposedly at least one species has a population in good condition, but hard to differentiate especially under the point of a gig. Here we have two major issues impacting the overall population: inshore netting, and bycatch from shrimping operations.

The recommendation for last couple of years has been severe restrictions for several years to allow the overall population to recover.

They put restrictions on recreational fisherman who are not the problem. I am allowed ZERO bycatch as a recreational angler yet the commercial company’s are allowed TONS of bycatch…
We have the same issues in the northern waters as well

It’s absolutely a commercial fishing problem. But it’s complicated, no easy solution. Well, the netting, that’s easy, needs to be banned. Absolutely murders fish, lots of fish that will never go to market either.

Thanks! Was a grey, but yeah, citation. Hit a bottom rig with a lizard fish tail on it, because I’d given up on everything else…

Grey trout down here are also known as weakfish. Slightly different species than speckled. Coloring is similar but when you see the fish up close and personal they’re easier to tell apart. Both beautiful fish.

Grey on top, speckled on the bottom:

Had another good day with some friends last Sunday @ a local lake. Those perch were damn good. Didn't eat the smallie.
