    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Actually, that's not a bad suggestion. And actually describes the sound I'm hearing. I've had the brake rotor squeek on the dust shields before (that happens often when you've done the Tundra brakes because the backers still don't fit right.)

However... I don't have dust shields on this set of spindles.

Since the squeek started I have:
Completely rebuilt an entire new set of spindles, and eliminated the brake dust shields.
New bearings, new inner and outer hub dust shields. Swapped hubs to a different set of hubs.
Completely overhauled the manual hub dail bodies.
    Fixed the CV dust shields.
    Replaced the brake pads.

And even though the diff doesn't turn, (unless I have the manual hubs locked) I have replaced the front diff as well

Put it on 4 wheel jacks and have someone throw it in gear. See if you can get any noise out of it without weight on wheels.

I have not done all 4 wheels (up at the same time), but I have freewheeled the front... and now the back, and I can't get any noise.

As a matter of fact... (also)
So, now I'm chasing the squeek to the back. Thinking maybe one of the rear dust shields is bent, or I have worn shoes...

    Nope

Shoes have better than 50% life left in them (with these drums of ours, that's like 100,000 miles lol) and I have better than 1/8th of an inch clearance from shield to drum all the way around (probably closer to 3/16)

You do know that when you find it you will look at it and say "why the fuck didnt I see that before?" Then cuss yourself for a week. Works that way every time.

Check each brake shoe where it touches the backing plate. There needs to be a bit of grease or they will squeak.

Noise in the front still there in 4WD? Sorry, aircraft maintainer in me does a lot of progressive troubleshooting.

Absolutely nothing to be sorry about. Bouncing ideas is the best way to trouble shoot. You might think of something I haven't.

No change in sound when I lock the manual hubs without engaging 4wd.

I've completely ruled out the front differential because the diff doesn't move if it's in 2wd with the manual hubs unlocked. Additionally, the front differential has been replaced since the squeaking started and made no difference. (Diff was replaced with new gears and locker).

Seeing as we've moved on to goofy suggestions - stick-on wheel weight vs. caliper interference? Had that on the tundra when I switched to 17" wheels.

Checked the situation. I've got about 2.5 inches between caliper and inside of the wheel. I am also running 1.25 spacers so there is extra clearance between the side of the caliper and the back of the wheel. (if that description makes any sense lol)

Transmission mount or bolts on crossmember loose or flexing? Gas tank straps? Brake lines rubbing on frame? Rear shock bolts and shock bushings?

If you haven't replaced your driveshaft and axles with Dana 60's and 45's then maybe that would fix it?

The squeak is definitely a sound that coincides with wheel rotation. So I would highly doubt it's a mount or crossmember. But, with that being said. Crossmember is tight, that was checked recently, as well as the t-case skid is tight (crossmember was checked when t-case skid was installed. Gas tank skid is not loose, just replaced the stock gas tank skid with a Low Range Offroad skid (after the squeaking had already started) did not change the sound. Gas tank straps were double checked when skid was installed.

Rear shock bolts are tight… I may actually want to check the uniball though (they are Fox so no bushings) now that you said that. Just because they are uniball… But again, the squeak is definitely tied to wheel rotation, not sway, or bouncing.

The driveshaft was actually replaced, along with all of the U-joints and carrier bearing a few years ago (when I swapped to 4wd). The driveline was re-greased, along with the u-joints this past winter. I checked the carrier bearing yesterday. It is definitely in serviceable condition with no abnormal play. I did not put the truck in neutral to spin the driveline and check to see if there is any abnormality with the U-joints on the rear driveline now though (front driveline can't be part of this problem as it doesn't move unless I'm in 4wd)... I'll check the rear DL when I get home this evening.

Dana 60s fix everything don't they? lol

Sorry if this is the wrong place, but my first gen is making some brake sounds, and before I dig in, I want to see if someone has experience with it.

After a steeper descent where I am "riding" the brakes, I get a pulsing sound like "ffft ffft ffft" that continues whether I am using the brakes or not. The pulsing is definitely related to my rolling speed (stops when I stop, speeds up when I accelerate) The pulsing eventually stops after the system has a chance to cool down. I'm guessing the sound is coming from the front left brake

Obviously this isn't an ideal situation, but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this before and what it ended up being? The brake fluid is nearly brand new, decent brake pad and rotor life remains, but both the pads and rotors came with the truck when I bought them, and I haven't had them out for inspection yet.

    Thanks

You say the brake fluid is nearly brand new. Did you change it? Or, previous owner? Are you sure the brakes were bled correctly?

Anyone in the Sac area have a spare SCS key I can borrow for a week or so? Have plans to drop my 4Runner off at the shop on Wednesday and can’t find my key anywhere. Have new one on order but don’t think it’ll get here in time.
