Hi all, last night we had a big storm and I suspect that my truck may have been hit by lightning (can't confirm and I don't see any damage or spider webbing in my paint).

I just got jumped and drove for about 20 minutes, parked and attempted to start it again to see if I had any problems and it won't start again.

While driving the ABS light was on too. Not sure what to do other than take it to the shop, figured if ask here first b/c you're all much smarter than I.

I’d start by checking the fuses and pull the codes for the engine/abs light.

I believe it might be this. I took it to a shop/person I trust and he pointed out my alternator and mentioned it looked like it was time to be replaced. He is going to run the codes and go from there.

    LOL.

    On a 2012?
Just by looking at it he says it was time for the alternator to be replaced? o_O

I'm not sure about your alternator being the issue. If your alternator was the issue you wouldn't be able to keep driving it because your battery would drain rather quickly. However it is possible you need a new battery.

I'd recommend checking codes, fuses, and have the battery tested before tossing parts at it.

Not sure how one tells an alternator is bad by looking at it unless it's super fried, I hope there was at least a charging voltage test involved.
From the symptoms you describe a bad alternator is a possibility but there should definitely be some testing involved not just the "parts shotgun"

yep, the electron meter was reading low. Haven't you used that trick to diagnose an alternator before?

    Start with the basics.
    -clean and tightened battery terminals
    - voltmeter to check battery voltage with truck off and then with truck at idle.

Theres a greater chance that your battery failed versus the alternator. How old is the battery?
Your "trusted" mechanic should've easily perform the steps above and narrowed it down to the battery or alternator. Is he trying to see if the code reader will display " change battery" ?

Last time I posted I didn't post enough info, my bad. The mechanic checked the fuses first and went down the line. He ran the codes and it came back as "replace battery."

I had the alternator replaced and I also replaced the battery. See pictures below:

Lastly, I am driving home and the ABS light came back on, idk what to do about that.. Any suggestions?

Update: Drove it around again, based on the last image I just noticed that the RPM was at zero and temp was "cold" -

After driving it again just now all gauges seem to be working again and ABS is now off (no lights are on).

You will have to pull the ABS codes, I don't have the procedure handy but maybe @TnShooter can post it up.
