The bike retails for $560 brand new. At $460 or anywhere close to that you may as well buy new and get a couple of free tune ups out of a shop because he’s going to need them.

Yeah it does look closest to a Talon 4, good point. I was thinking the other Talon models in the $900 range

Shit. Same height as me; which is a royal pain in the ass when it comes to bike sizing, as we're directly in the middle between medium and large on most size charts -- especially with full suspension bikes. I'll take a look at Pinkbike's classifieds and share what I think would work in a hardtail at our height, though:

    1. Medium, "old-school" geometry, cross-country (XC), 29er hardtail: https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3097639/
    2. Medium, slightly more modern geometry, XC, 27.5 hardtail: https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3102750/
    3. Medium, slightly more modern geometry, XC, 27.5 hardtail: https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3100687/
    4. Medium, slightly more modern geometry, XC, 29er hardtail: https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3076071/
    5. RIDICULOUSLY NICE COMPONENTS on this one, but you'll need to talk him into shipping it. Medium, slightly more modern geometry, XC, 27.5 hardtail: https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3062975/

You get the idea. Pinkbike is an awesome place to buy a used bike. You can usually talk sellers into shipping them from bike shop to bike shop (using BikeFlights), which adds an extra layer of security to the deal.

Full suspension offerings are few and far between at this price point, but you may want to go check out the local Trek shop and get sized for the Fuel EX series. Many used Trek Fuels can be found on Pinkbike, as well, but you'll need to get sized first.

Good luck and I hope you find something!

Medium, S3 type of range IMHO, no expert. Pretty sure S3 for 29ers in Specialized. I have an Evo in S2 and it's not a tiny frame. Not small for sure, maybe large for some 27.5" wheel bikes. It depends on the bike geometry, your preferences.

I am about 5'9" thought no WAY I would I ever want a 29" wheel bike. Now I am 200% glad I got a 29er. The first couple rides were just getting comfortable then whammy......in love. Holes and divots and stuff down hill seem like nothing. OTOH, you seem like a younger fellow who may enjoy flinging the bike a bit more so ride and consider 27.5" as well.

Agree on looking at Pinkbike ads. I've sold all but one bike through Pinkbike, and the more recent ones used BikeFlights for reasonable shipping. Typically higher-quality stuff can be found.

FWIW, I'm 5'11" with an even ape index, and I ride a large. Some mediums have worked in the past, but over time feel too cramped.

Oh man. I haven't heard of the fullerton loop for a while! You're talking the one in the OC, right? I rode that way back in 2009 on my 3x hardtail. Good times.

Can anyone remember if the i9 Enduro S Hydra wheels used to be J bend spokes? According to their site they're now straight pull which blurs the lines between these and the Enduro 305's. I guess the difference is aluminum vs steel spokes but that doesn't account for a $500 difference.

Dude. it's quite literally 2x the price of a 1up. All of a sudden, 1up's 600-700ish pricing doesn't seem to bad after all! hah!

All the Enduro S wheelsets (only 2) with Hydras that I’ve had were straight pull.

I don’t know if there are differences in the rim for S vs 305, but yea steel to alloy spoke isn’t worth the up charge for me. Granted you can’t customize an S set like the 305. And even then that customization ticks up the price.

    28 vs 32 spokes and the 32 spoke 305 is 50g lighter.
The inner rim widths are the same, but the 305 is wider on the outside, not sure how that effects things too much.

I think it's just a stronger wheel, but maybe then still not worth the extra dollars.

    I'm on a 2018 Yeti SB5+, upgraded to DPX2 shock, Fox 36 @ 160mm, blah blah. I'm 200-220lbs with gear.

Bike still rips, I absolutely love it everytime I ride it. It still has factory SRAM Guide brakes on it from 2018. 200f/180r. I'm completely comfortable with SRAM brakes and the maintenance (I bleed em oftem).

Has anyone went from Guides to say Code RSC's and can comment? I know people are going to say go XT or Saints, but I'd like to stay with SRAM. Maybe for the next bike I'll switch from SRAM/X01 to Shimano/XTR and see what happens.

ask @Pugga about his. He just purchased a Polygon for within your budget and it is a pretty loaded bike for the price!

    (in response to aturk above)
I have CODE Rs. Not directly related but similar. The rears can get noisy when dusty intermittently. I blew them out with air then later washed them well with orange cleaner and zero noise ever since.

Anyway they stop my jackass 175# hide and backpack just fine.

I can feel it is almost time for some adjustment and may need a bleed this fall plus I bought some new rear pads I may throw in.

    I ride almost every day.

Think the 67lb rating per Ebike is nice though. :p
