In the market for a Taco and came across this...

Is this a good deal?

2002 Tacoma extra-cab with 110k miles (2wd automatic). Clean condition and carfax. Auto/power everything/TRD package with the 4 cylinder motor for $7k?

It sounds like a good price, it would be close to double that I'm sure if was for sale in this area here.

Thoroughly look over and check everything on the truck. Drive it and see how it runs, take it a mechanic first to have them check it out if you like, especially to look over the frame to have them check for rust. If everything checks out, seems like it's in good shape and it was well taken care of, go for it if that truck is what you are looking for.

The 4 cylinder has a chain, not a belt like the v6 has.

 

Thanks for the info guys. I am new to the tacoma scene and recently changed jobs and need a pickup to drive to work/plant.

Is there any specific recalls/known issues the 2002 4cyl taco have?

The timing chain has not been changed. Any idea how much that runs? Is there anything else I should do while I change out the chain?

Good news, picked up my 2002 Taco yesterday! I did some research on here and I believe the concensus is that I don't need to worry about replacing/maintaining the timing chain. Is there anything else I need to replace at 110k miles? Water pump? Tstat? Thanks!

 

First, welcome to tw. Congrats on the purchase.

As a matter of fact, yes...there are a few items to consider. Tires! You'll soon realize you need bigger ones! But to fit them you'll need to add a lift to your truck! Might as well upgrade your springs and shocks while your at it. Better get a 2nd job to support your new truck.
