Everythings installed and working great. Now I have a question I hope someone knows. On the instructions it says to cut the white wire if using front facing camera. Why? It seems to work perfectly fine uncut. I dont want to cut it and mess it up

If it works fine, dont cut it.

On mine the image was mirrored such that it would work if it was a reversing camera. I had to snip the white so that i.e. the stuff to the left of the car showed up on screen as being to the left of the car, not to the right with the camera facing forward. If things show up correctly, Don't snip anything. Maybe the static guidelines wire but thats personal preference.

I have a 2016 xp and I've noticed toyota upgraded the radio in the 17+. Touch, cleaner look, Navi, etc. Is it possible to plug and play the newer radio into mine?

You want the new 2021 radio? this thread is about android radios, you'll have to specify what radio you have, and what radio you want.

If you have a the entune system and want android, then we can help you. If you have entune and want the new 2021 radio, then there are better places on this forum to find your answer.

Radios from 2016-2019 are the same (3 trim levels), then they updated the radios for 2020+ for carplay/android auto.

I'm not opposed to anything I honestly just would like to upgrade. I have an android phone so I think android radio or newer factory radio would be best.

I'm not sure what radio I actually have. It's stock. I think roughly a 5inch display with the knobs on the top almost touching the dash trim. The Navi on it sucks... you literally have to download the scout app and have it running on your phone to use it... even then it's only step by step instructions. No map.

Mostly I want to go with something cleaner, sleeker, and all around much more functional.

Ok so it sounds like you have the base system. If you want to upgrade to the android system made by joying you will need 1 extra part. You will need a replacement radio bezel. You currently have the "small" headunit, you need the bezel from the "large" one.

This is the radio bezel you'll need. You can find them on here every once in a while, otherwise ebay. It has to be from the "entune premium" system (you can see the hole for the radio goes all the way to the silver trim)
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2019-tacoma-oem-radio-bezel.650793/

From there the plugs for the wiring is all going to be pretty much the same, you probably dont have XM radio, so there will be no antenna for that, but thats fine as the joying android system does not have XM anyhow.

Yes it looks like you're right. However I think I do already have XM on it. I dont use it much though. I mostly Bluetooth Spotify to it or just use use regular radio. I see what you mean though about the bezel. So basically it's just a stock bezel for the upgraded model that I need. And the weather I go android or the upgraded factory model it's simply plug and play?

More or less. You can get the entune premium from any truck up till 2019 and its a direct swap over with the new bezel. If you want android auto/carplay that the 2020+ model has, then there is a special harness you need and will have to shell out a pretty penny for the radio.

You can get 2016-2019 radios for pretty cheap, though many people still dont like them. Thus we have the android radio from joying, gives you all the same features as if your phone was the radio.

Oh ok awesome. So first I'll track down the premium bezel.

I don't have a whole lot to put toward this so that puts the 2020 out. I'll stick with the 16-19 or the joying. Do you happen to have a link to it?

As for navigation... I can basically pull up waze or something on the joying?

Also... with joying, will I have access to the same features that are on this radio?

Vs. If I go with the 16-18 premium radio... will Navi work? Will I have those maintenance features that I don't have on this one? Etc.

With the joying, You can run any map app you want. But you need to either download mapdata, or tether your phone so the radio is connected to the internet.

You do lose a few things with the joying radio. You will lose the info in the center of the cluster (if your cluster has the color screen) that normally shows song name or directions.

You will also lose the maintenance functions in the factory radio. But I gained the ability to install fuelio, it tracks maintenance, gas fill ups, oil changes, all that stuff.

There are some car settings in the joying radio though, settings for door locks, drl lights, and a few others.

Oh yikes. I'm not sure if I want to loose the use of that. It's good to hear that you will retain some features of factory though. And also the customizability of the android does have its benefits. But if I choose a stock premium model then I'll still have the use of the center cluster? And also gain the more developed maintenence features and navigation?

Ah! I'll have plenty of time to decide while I Save up. I have a few other things in line before this. Not to mention I'll need to work on that larger bezel too.

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi guys, I was thinking of selling my Entune radio now that my Joying is 100%, however I know that certain functions are only available through the stock radio, and I'm worried that if I sell the Entune head unit I'll lose the ability to change those settings FOOOR. E. VER. I've seen folks mention something called techstream to change some settings, but I am unfamilair with it. Do any of you have experience with techstream, and/or know if it works with 2021s? And will it allow me to retain making changes to the settings normally found in the Entune unit?

    Thanks!!

PS My Joying works VERY well, great functionality at half the cost of the Alpine I was looking at!

What settings are you referring to?
