2009 non-DRL Tacoma. I noticed today that my side markers stay on for quite a while after unlocking the passenger door (update, it’s associated with putting the key to on and then removing it from the passenger side. Not the lock/unlock). I know it will shut off if I open the driver side but stays on if only using the passenger side. Previously when I had the original osram marker bulbs, the light would turn off after a few minutes. I have since changed them to LED bulbs as well as tied the amber raptor lights in my Baja designs light bars into the same circuit. Now it seems the diodes are staying on for much longer. I’m not sure if it’s controlled by a capacitor that needs to discharge (taking much longer with the smaller draw of led’s) or if it supposed to be controlled by a timer?
I’m curious if anyone else noticed this or understands the electronic minutiae of 2nd gen Tacoma’s well enough to clarify. I’m going to keep an eye on them for a while to see if they turn off on their own.

The headlights and tail lights will stay on if the switch is on until the driver's door is opened, other than that no lights should stay on from unlocking the door.

...seems you might have a non-OEM alarm system installed.

Scenario is reaching in from the passenger side trying to power the rear view home link garage door opener to open the garage. When I turn my key to on and off then remove the key from the passenger side, the marker lights illuminate and will go out if the driver side door is opened. If I’m reaching in from the passenger side, the markers stay on regardless of the passenger door being opened or closed. I thought the markers would turn off after a short time but could be wrong. Now the markers stay on until I open the driver door. I thought there was a timer in the circuit that would turn the lights off after a certain time. Also, no alarm ever on the truck and the harness hasn’t been spliced into. I might be realizing this for the first time after owning the truck for 12 years but thought it seemed like something I hadn’t previously noticed.

Is your headlight switch on or off?

I keep it in the middle position during the day and on at night. I’m starting to think this has always been the behavior and I’m just realizing it from not typically accessing the ignition from the passenger side.

I've never timed mine but I know they will stay on for a long time after the key is off or until I open the door.
