What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

More progress today, got the 3 seals replaced and the WP surface cleaned. Now gonna clean up some of the hardware and get a few of the studs that came out back in before I start buttoning everything back up



Also valve covers are definitely gonna be sooner than I thought. It’s pretty gross up in there

 

New carrier. Xtra cab problems.
Half way there. Super easy with an impact.
Now, where did i put those torque specs.

I don't have a strong enough vice lol

 

I left it on the truck all the times I’ve done it

 

Left mine on the truck, too. Used an impact to tighten then backed off to *edit* 54 ft/lbs or whatever it is. Would have to double check.

Never removed the driveshaft though

 

...lol ok. I'm putting it back to torque. Impact seated it pretty good I think. Gutentight

A lot of the writeups and videos show it by removing the driveshaft so I imagine it's pretty common

 

Yeah. It was super easy till that step. I would have been cursing trying to get the rear separated from the front at the carrier under the truck. Well, not next time knowing it'll save me some time.

Thanks for the advise everyone. Super easy torqing it on the truck. Just need to stake it and torque it all down

 

Bent axle sucks. When I happens to me again, I'll probably try chromoly axles. Or maybe pull a @drr and get a complete LC rear setup.

 

What's this evidence we're looking at? I could see my tire wobble in the mirror when I bent a shaft. Or put it on jack stands, put it in gear,, and check for run out.

 

And you are sure that is gear oil leaking? Doesn't look like it. Could be brake fluid. Did you pull the drum off? @m3bassman

Steering rack bushing recommendations?

I am on my 3rd set of energy suspension bushings and I pulled my skids off today to find this:


These only have like 10k miles on them.

any better brands/experience anyone?

 

I bough total chaos I think

 

Edit... for some reason I thought you were asking about LCA bushings, then I re-read it and looked at the picture lol

I have Energy... and I need to replace them. If anyone has better suggestions I'd be all ears too.

 

I looked at those... They look an aweful lot like what Energy bushings would look like if they were repackaged lol

But I’m sure all the poly bushings LOOK the fairly similar

 

All poly bushings are actually, probably, made by the same company.

 

I had energy on my last rack, just put total chaos on, total chaos is a noticeably stiffer poly. I can’t get them to flex at all by hand
