I've seen 2010 and newer GM/Ford/Dodge trucks with such severe rust that you'd think they spent their entire lives in a salt bath. My company spent $1000 for every 10k miles we put on our fleet of Subarus to try to fix constant issues with their CV Joints and front suspension, which was prone to failure. We also had every driver's side door hinge repaired on every single Forester we had. We drove 30-40 2009 Colorados into the ground, 300k+ miles on each of them and only ever did tires/oil changes. We drove about 50 Frontiers from 15-17 into the ground, all of which had substantial heater core/coolant system problems and rattled like they were 40 years old.

Its all just anecdotes. I'd still buy a Tacoma over any other mid-size truck.

I bought my Tacoma in large part due to Toyota's reputation for reliability and longevity. That said no brand is perfect but I'll play those odds all day every day.

The Mustang I traded in on the Taco had significant issues in the 6 years I had it. Paint failure despite frequent care, manual transmission would grind going into 3rd when cold no matter what, constant TPMS failures, the capless gas tank was always giving me CEL, and lastly the clutch pedal pinched the main wiring harness in the dash, locked itself in the depressed position frying the clutch resulting in a $4k bill from the dealer.

The other thing they have in common is lack of modifications, service it on time, leave it stock, and it will last longer...most of the highest mileage Toyotas are those that the owners drive off the lot, service when the light comes on or the sticker in the corner of the window tells them.

Wow, Thats says something for the Colorados eh. I assume I should be able to easily get 200,000 miles but I just want to confirm others experiences

My 2008 Canyon (same as the Colorado) would beg to differ on the 300k mark. Traded it in at 158k when I had my fill of trying to fix it.

If you're referring to the fact that companies have to pay JD Power a fee to use their name and results in advertising, point taken. From a consumer standpoint they should be taken with a grain of salt. Their data is actually valuable to the industry as a whole, however, who depend on that data being accurate and pay a subscription fee as one way to learn how consumers feel about competitors' products.

That's no true at all. Tons of new vehicles have major issues before even 100k. Stop pulling fake info out of your ass.

Yes and no. I'm not saying this is the case here but it is cheaper to pay the fees appropriately than it is to fix a product or a crappy manufacture process. That being said, I agree you shouldn't just dismiss the information entirely.

From what I understand, US tax laws protect domestic pickup trucks so importing would be financially unwise. Hence all pickups are built in North America.

Should also say that any Toyota or Honda would be your best chance of making 200k with no real issues.

Drivetrain issues are people complaining about shift points because govt mpg makes them stay in gear longer so you have to press the gas harder to downshift. The new ecu flash I heard fixed it.

Yup, the 25% "Chicken Tax". Trucks built in Mexico or Canada are exempt because of trade agreements.

Good thought and nice try ;) I guess I should have mentioned US built AND Canada/Mexico are exempt. I'll be more clear so as not to get people overly excited again :)

I have owned 2) BMW X5’s. This statement is not accurate with BMW’s. The worst vehicle I have ever owned! Our current, a 2012 X5 (150k miles) has surpassed my previous 08 Tacoma (350k miles) 5 fold in repair bills.

This is why I would never buy BMW, Mercedes or Audi. I’m sure they drive amazing, but...

Not quite - 2.5% for autos ( Cars, trucks, vans etc)

the 25% for truck is big rig stuff - which is one of the reasons we'll never see the cool cabover trucks they use in Europe here in NA.

Yup, we were talking about trucks, which is why I didn't bring up the 2.5% for autos. That's why you see Toyota cars with J VIN numbers but not trucks

    What Is the Chicken Tax?
The Chicken Tax is a 25% tariff on light trucks imported to the U.S., imposed in retaliation for European tariffs on American chicken imports. The tariff was imposed in 1964 in an executive order issued by President Lyndon Johnson.1 In the years since then, trade barriers have fallen and the average U.S. tariff rate on industrial imports stands at 2% as of late 2019, according to U.S. government figures.2 But the Chicken Tax still stands.
