Anyone with an 18 get this done? My vin is included in the list but just 19/20 model years are listed. Mine has all the terrible shifting characteristics.

All this talk of TSB this TSB that. Will it really help, does it do this, does it help with that, what are the differences bla bla...Get a VF tune from somebody in your area and end these shenanigans for fuck sake. Toyotas TSB flashes are a mere bandaid at best.

Cause most don’t want to spend 800 bucks for something that should be like this from factory. I’m not adding a turbo or supercharger so the money seems like a waste. I’m not adding power don’t need aftermarket tune. Plus the warranty crap with it flashed.

Dealer just did this for my 20. 50 mile drive mostly highway to work was a very noticeable difference. Shift points are different and throttle response in traffic and from a stop are a lot more fluid now.

I think you're also benefiting from the "reset." I feel like mine sort of crept back to bad habits. I think the "learning"algorithm is jacked up. I've taken to just putting it in S5 and forgetting about it. I'll put it in D on the interstate but that's about it. It drives reasonably in S5 around town, and up to about 70mph the revs are still right at 2k.

Around what mileage would you say it seems to correct itself back? I put a lot of miles on mine to and from work so I'll probably see it fairly quickly if that's the case.

I had the same issue, so I took it back to the dealership. It turns out that they can’t do anything else to make it better since the t-sb 0090-20 had already been installed. It has nothing to do with the learning algorithm. It has more to do with how they programmed the gasoline octane grade that it uses. Try a full tank of premium gasoline on it, and you will see your Tacoma come back to life again. The sad thing is that it is hitting my pocket book hard at the pump. Hope this helps, and spread the word.

Usually around a month. If you have the t-sb already installed, use premium gasoline 93 octane, and if not it will give you super bad performance in about a month’s time. Let me know how it goes.

I can verified this as well ^ I’ve been writing about this for a while around here but most people don’t believe it or they call it placebo effect. Sometimes I just wonder if those same people have had the chance to drive their Tacomas thru at least two full tanks of premium fuel before they make a judgment. I’ve done the exact same thing, taken the truck to the dealer, gotten the TSB done, etc. I’ve been driving my 2018 on premium for about 4 months now and, yes, it hurts my wallet and, no, the truck doesn’t get more power but it just drives much better and with no issues shifting, hesitating or lagging and I could not be happier.

Absolutely! I can't believe people don't believe you. We are only trying to help. The thing is, why is this the case? Even the dealership didn't believe me. I am thinking that the program did not come with the correct octane specification, and we just discovered it by chance. It should have been instructed on the T-sb's modification update. Oh well, I am happy, you are happy, and now all we can do is share. I follow a YouTube channel guy by the name of Rob that says that he tried the premium gasoline on his truck, but it did not work for him. But he did not get the t-sb installed, so that is a different case. He says a sprint booster helped his truck's performance by increasing the pedal's response time. So he is good for now. I wonder who we can contact at the corporate office to ask about the t-sb and the gasoline specifications?

Thanks for sharing, and I am glad your truck is riding well. It took me 10 months to get mine to do so.

I’m also glad to find someone who has had the same experience as me. I don’t know how the truck was tuned, all I can say is that the owner’s manual calls for 87 octane or higher and when I mentioned it to the dealer their top technician told me that he believed me and that it made sense that the truck ran better on 93 although not necessary for it to run. We all agree that’s definitely a higher cost using 93 vs 87 and that 93 is not needed for our trucks to run but to me it’s totally undeniable that the truck drives way better with 93 octane fuel. In my case, like in yours, I’m not trying to provide any evidence of anything, I’m just trying to share what I know in hopes that it might help someone else.

I just can't believe we are having so many headaches with this truck in general. Toyota was my truck of choice because of their well known reliability. I have been driving mine for over 10 months, and I feel like I am just getting to enjoy it. For the other 10 months, I felt like my safety was being compromised, and that was a big issue with me. Now, the concern is the cost of gasoline. 3.45 per gallon on my neck of the woods. I don't mind it that much as long it drives well, but if it has a simple software glitch fix, then they need to correct it. I just wish some one from corporate would hear us out and look into it. A software update would be nice to have it run on all grades the same.

If you never had it upgraded by the dealer, you likely still have the older software.

Take it in for service and tell them that you are having shifting issues, power loss etc. And to check if they t-sb-0090-20 has been installed. It will help the truck a lot. The only thing though is that on mine it regressed back to the same issues after a month. It turned out that the octane grade was the issue. I use grade 93 on it from now on. It is running great again.

i've had the same experience. running 91 makes the truck a lot more enjoyable than 87.
