you could look at more weight potentially meaning thicker sidewalls etc from a durability standpoint if you expect to be off the pavement much.

i have never been a fan of the KO2 but when it is tire time again if the 34x10.5 are available at a decent price compared to the 255’s i run i would give them a go..

how is that for a mixed message to not help at all !?!?!?!

I’ll chime in a bit since I have the KO2s on my Land Cruiser, and the AT3s on my Tacoma. Both were only available as ‘E’ rated tires. I upped one size (taller) from stock on my Land Cruiser, and went with a 295/75/16 on my Tacoma.

The LC drives remarkably quiet, but it’s to be expected since the SUV has a lot more sound deadening material. Took it off-road in a couple of mild and moderate trails, and it did fantastic. I really cannot complain about the KO2s and love the look of the white lettering.

Before going to the AT3s (295/75/16s) on my Taco, I briefly ran KM3s in size 285/75/16s. It was way too loud for the road, and I literally took them off in less than 50 miles. The AT3s, were of course much quieter. I would say that it’s slightly louder than the KO2s at highway speeds. My guess is that in water or snow, it will have a slight traction advantage over the BFGs due to the design.

The price was about the same, so I really don’t think you can go wrong with either. That being said, the TOYO AT3s is the newer tire and may have some advantages for being the latest and greatest.

There’s no need for a E rated tire if you go with the open country at3’s. They come in SL like you’re factory tire.

You won’t have the loss of power from adding 16lbs of unnecessary unsprung weight to each corner to a truck that is not know for being a powerhouse to begin with.

Tell me I’m wrong.. but I wasn’t aware there’s an option besides E rated for my size: 295/75/16.

Nice TRD PRO by the way! We’ve got matching rigs.

Thanks, it’s less stock now lol.
I have no idea. It’s my bad, I was referring to the OP, mentioning 265 75s, and between ko2 vs toyos at3. I should have quoted.

I would assume that a 34 inch tire would not come in a SL lol, and would be more than 16 lbs unsprung weight.

thanks that is what I was thinking. I have read a lot about the unsprung weight making the truck feel much slower with Ko2s being they are 53 pounds or so. I do see toyo makes the at3 in a 265/75/16 SL. also have read something about one side of the toyo being more aggressive depending which side is mounted out. can anyone confirm this ? or is it just for the larger tires that are E/F rated ?

No just people on Tacoma world making things more than it is.

I have the US made owl that dudes said has the more aggressive side wall…it’s not aggressive. Not compared to the wildpeaks.

Seems like a bit of a mess on the side wall lug/aggressiveness with the Toyo At3's. From what I read and understand on the big Toyo thread here is that the 265/75r16's will be pretty watered down side walls even if you go from SL or LT. Then any other size tire that are made in the USA would have a more pronounced side wall lugs/aggressiveness compared to ones coming from Japan.

I ordered 265/75r16 SL OWL from my local tire shop, should be here sometime next week. Will post some pics once I get them on.

This is the solution OP..... just buy the AT tire that you think looks the best and forget the weight, ppl toss that around way way too much here.

Yeah I went from E to C in the same tire and size and only gained 1 mpg, no huge gains.

I've been a bfg mud terrain guy for a long time and what I can say is bfg's rubber compound for longevity is the best . I too am on the fence of the new at3's or the ko2's . I've grown outta playing in the mud . I've had buddies get farther in deep snow with the bfg ko's or ko2's vs my km2's or km3's. That's snow though. I love my km3's and going on 2yrs with just under half tread life , I can see them making it into next spring or summer. Bfg as they say on their tires "Baja Champions".

It does look good, IMO the thread pattern is superior to the KO2s. The sidewall is lacking though...

get whatever is cheaper. I love my AT3s but KO2s are cool too. Neither is worth the premium. Tires are consumable and you will be replacing them in the future

I mean, there’s merit to “tossing around” information about weight. Some people don’t want the loss of power for example. If loss of torque wasn’t a concern, then there would be no market to regearing vehicles.

Same can be said about ride quality, wear and tear on the drive train, fuel economy etc. Not everyone’s idea of an “upgrade” is to make their vehicle’s ride, stiff, noisy and slow up hill.

Agreed, the open dialogue is good.

I've had stock, then Falken AT3W 265/75r16, then 255/85r16 Toyo Open Country MT on my 2018 TRD Offroad, and didn't note any major difference when going from the 32's to the 33.5's when it came to fuel consumption for my driving. I preferred the firmer ride of the quality E rated MT tire over the SL AT3W tire as I like a firmer ride. Noise was minimal, as for slow uphill... the auto transmission is a pile of poops however you look at it with stock programming. For me, the overall power with the 33.5's was perfectly acceptable.

Now that I have defected to a Diesel ZR2 I run 255/80r17 E rated AT3W's, mpg's, power and ride are all fantastic! That said a PRO with a manual transmission could be next on my list of ever changing rides.

I’ve got a set of 4 BFG KO2 for sale in size 265/75/16. E rated. Listed in the for sale section and located in MA. I loved the look of them but I’m 100% highway.

I’ve really enjoyed the ride I’ve gotten with these Toyo’s. They’re quiet at highway speeds and they’ve been great in the snow, rain, etc. No complaints.
