Removing Tacoma Emblems

I want to take all of my emblems off and was wondering what I'm gonna need to do this. And are the emblems glued on or are they clipped in to the body cuz i don't want pin holes left where the emblems were.

 

They are glued..use stronge fishing line and just saw through it, use a blow dryer if you need to

i just finished mine today. i used a blow dryer and fishing line to remove them. once removed, clean the residue off with rubbing alcohol.

 

Use goo gone it's 5 bucks at home depot and all the sticky residue will come right off super easy

 

Be careful using rubbing alcohol. I tried it on mine and it stripped the clearcoat. Goo gone is a favorite to remove the glue just takes a little longer.

 

as soon as i finished, i washed it off. i hope it doesn't do any damage.

 

I have a dull spot on my tailgate where I used the rubbing alcohol. It is black though so it really shows.

I used a hair dryer and a plastic putty knife. You can get some aerosol spray that takes that glue right off and wont damage the finish. Take your time or you will snap one.

Also, if you are putting them back on, put some tape around where they are now so you know exactly where to put them back.

 

They are not glued.. they are taped.
You do not need a hair dryer. Though If its really cold it might be a touch easier.

Any smooth string will work. I use kite string. Strong.. smooth. Just fish it under the edge and slowly pull and saw. You should be automatically cutting the tape right along the trim piece not the body.

When youre done you'll have the tape on the body. Depending on how long its been there and myriad other factors it may be easy or take a little doing to get it off.

Usually can get it off by just pushing it into a ball with your finger.. NOT your fingernail. Just friction it off. IF you've got soft girly skin, you can use something like a deer skin glove or similar clean soft glove/cloth, paper towel.

Use any kind of putty knife or excessive fingernail and you'll see it in the final product.

If you're going to use a hair dryer.. you can probably just pull them off without fishing line.

To get any residual glue off use adhesive remover. Used to sell it at walmart before they went all shabby chic.. but now you have to get it at auto parts store.
Get rid of all the dirt and hard water marks from your "o"s with some finish refresher. Not rubbing compound. A very mild polish will do it.

Experience: Doing thousands of them at a dealership .. boats.. rvs.. cars. We'd get em from other dealers with badges on them already or as trade-ins and remove. Guess who's job it was from 14-17 years old. AND.. I just did mine today. Like they were never there.

THere's like 500 threads on this with a bunch of yahoos tellin people to putty knife em off and scratch at it and all. Go to the store once in a while and just look at what they sell there... then when a job comes up, you know there's already a tool for the job. In this case, glue solvent.

 

15 buck heat gun and fishing string be careful not to scratch it and finish with wd40

 

If anyone has some 2nd gen emblems I may be interested in buying if the price is right and they are not destroyed

heatgun/hair dryer to soften the edge to get a plastic putty knife under it, then you can just peel the emblems off by hand. Then I use the 3M rubber pinstripe removal wheel on my cordless drill to get the leftover adhesive off. A little more pricey at around $30 but alot less effort and no clearcoat damage.

 

I want my emblems to be black. Is there any way to put them back on after I have taken them off to paint them? or I was thinking of using PlastiRap to do them. Does anyone recommend this?

 

Ether will work to, to take the stickiness off!!
