I used an entire 125 ft3 tank building the boat you see in my profile picture. I thinbk it was a lot of welding. Since then, just the random Al welding I presently do, the needle has barely come off the 2k mark.

I don't think I would be afraid of a small tank as long as I had a local shop nearby to swap out cans when empty.

Awesome. There's a Central Welding like 2 miles away. No big deal

    Yep.

Obviously welding on is best, but bolt on works fine for light duty situations (show?).

If they wrap under the frame rail, they’re bolt on. No need for weld on to do that. The holes aren’t uniform, likely to line up with existing holes on the frame.

    They’re bolt on.

I use 1/2” grade 8 hardware. Each bolt has 15,000 lbs of shear strength

Over the last 6 years I’ve built around 600 sets without any issues or complaints. Sorry if they seem under built to you :notsure:

I’ve built probably 90% of my sliders bolt on and have had quite a few people bash the shit out of theirs. I don’t claim to make the best most stout slider out there but my bolt ons have held up to quite a bit

I agree that the bolt on will work just fine. I'm was just wondering how many people just like the looks and never go off road?

Regardless, if you go off road or not, both types of money is still green.

    Amirite?

Yeah for sure. I was just stating that bolt ons could work well for more than just light duty applications if they’re built well enough and you use appropriate hardware.

Hahaha yessir that’s right! I do have some customers who don’t intend to beat them up and just have them as “just in cases”

    In other news:

I'm in "Dutch" with the old lady.

She didn't like me sending my welding helmet thru the dish washer(minus the auto shade).

ive seen the way your customers use their sliders so I never doubt their strength!
    :muscleflexing:

Some of the larger fab companies use 5-6 bolts per slider and they’ve help up without issue. I’ve seen other companies use 10 bolts per side but they use 5/16” hardware so who knows. I’ve yet to hear anyone’s sliders fail due to broken fasteners either way.

haha no no I’m not saying that, I’m making my first set now and Maybey what I’m building is just overkill. I’m also using material that’s free too so 2.5” 3/16 square tube and sh40 pipe it is

Thanks buddy. You know as well as I do that a bolt on slider is only as good as it’s attachment hardware. If the hardware is skimped out on then they won’t be as strong as they could be with the proper hardware. That’s why I started using 1/2” grade 8 stuff from the get go cuz I knew it would hold up to the abuse

haha damn those are gonna be nice and heavy but they’ll be very stout. Looking forward to seeing pics of how they turn out

What does everyone recommend for Argon?

Is the best option: Buy new 80 cu ft?

I’d start with c25. As far as bottle size goes that’s a preference thing. I like big bottles on big welders and 125’s on my smaller machines. But I also weld a lot more than most hobbyists. Good thing is it’s mig welding and gas consumption is very minimal. Even an 80 will last a hobbyist a long time.
