Morning y'all. Little bit of carnage and luck to start the day. Boss messaged me last night asking me to come in early since they broke a bolt off in our gang saw. Luckily for me it's a through hole, so after a bit of drilling it screwed itself right out the back with no extractor needed (I had one ready though.) The new bolt they tried to put in went in easy at first then munched the threads. The threads in the hole stretched and I ended up having to re-tap it with a bottoming tap. Now it's all back together and everyone is happy! Except for these bolts... 668A5A26-8A03-4EE5-8DBD-C7C8DF1C1242.jpg947ABCEC-B1EA-41D1-AE65-35E785AA9245.jpg32F94BFF-31A0-4AF3-BB5D-A89AF40C68CF.jpg

I just discovered what grinds my gears. Coworker was looking at the tap I used this morning since they had never used one this big. When they were done, instead of putting it back in the case, they casually tossed it onto our steel workbench. I nearly came unhinged.... image.jpg

Havent had facebook in about 4 years or so, been social media-less for the same. Life has been great since. I deleted it all for multiple reasons, some political, some personal. I think more and more people are remembering life before fbook and leaving.

I dumped Facebook about 5 years ago. I disagreed with my stepson that turned into me getting bashed by his friends. I got tired of seeing what people had for dinner and the politics was bs
I got back on Facebook 2 months ago and follow two pages. A local off road shop and a Wisconsin Toyota owners page.

I was going to ask if that was an 1"-12 bolt, but then I scrolled down to see it was metric.

Yep, we have two machines in this mill that are German- all metric. So now my toolbox is split between metric and standard.

That's some money right there! Even a 1" tap can run up to $400.

We have some larger broaching bars too. I had a opportunity to use these but opted to send the parts to a shop in Lincoln NE, and have the key ways wire EDM cut.20210812_082828.jpg

I'm feeling pretty numb right now. Can't figure out for the life of me how to get this thing to run. Push the "forward" button and there's a click, but no movement or other noises. Same with reverse. 26ECD7AC-A6E5-41E4-A43B-68CA6B1E41F4.jpg

Edit: anybody know what should be used in this for oil?945CA733-6AB3-4670-9E55-D5BFD2A15468.jpg

I would imagine so! Here's a holder I made for 3.5" NPT notice the handles bent from 4 foot scaffold pole cheaters. Fortunately I wasn't around when those taps were used. I haven't a clue what they were for. Guys prior may have mentioned but I don't recall. Got a good guess, reactor pressure vessel head studs??20210812_083226.jpg
