I use Mobil DTE 732 in the spindle and gear box on the older lathes and Vactra #2 in the carriage. In new Clausing Lathe I bought their recommended Shell. We have the DTE 732 in bulk.20210812_083859.jpg

So... we have nothing even remotely close to that. We have generic 90w gear oil for one machine, aw46 hydraulic fluid, and diesel motor oil (I forget what weight)

You hear a click, does the motor run? Then the lever will actually turn the chuck on. Set it to a slow speed, really supposed to have something tightened into the chuck to run it. Safety precaution, be difficult but IF the jaws unscrew themselves and fly out, plus wear n tear on the jaw to screw contact.

I can't even hazard a guess on how much that is. I would call, but I don't want to have a heart attack this early in the morning.

The hydraulic fluid probably be best bet for spindle and gear box. 90w be ok in the carriage

Not hearing any motor run. Just click of the contact. I have confirmed that it does have 480 at the wall. The previous millwright here had it running two months ago, but no luck now.

My guess is they had to custom make a handle for them. I hope to not ever need them, but just in the memory bank of stuff available if it rears a ugly head.

@BananaMan , here's the motor control buttons and levers to turn the spindles on.

It looks to me like that string keeps the spindle running or from falling down and stopping. It may be in spindle run mode now (up position) and perhaps a safety interlock preventing it starting in gear, doubtful though, old blondes take right off.

I've pushed it in and tested it, it's working correctly and still nothing. I've given up for the time being, trying to keep the mill running for shift. I'll take another crack at it later when less stuff is breaking.

Looked up that hydraulic oil you have available and that's fine for the head unit (spindle) and gearbox below. On the carriage there's a plug up top and a couple of spring loaded oil capped locations your 90W gear oil be good in there.
Clean that chip pan out and shine the thing up before even fartin with it. I use compressed air to clean chips off everything but some places don't allow that. Just use common sense not to blow air up or directly to the wipers where you could force a chip in there. Wipe those ways off spotless and give them a light coating of that 90W and run everything back and forth. There's two bolts holding a cover on over the cross feed screw, remove that cover and clean that screw off and oil it too, put cover back on. There should be a sight glass on the carriage for the 90W
Edit; you might be surprised how many parts might still be available for that machine.

You pushed that lever with the string down?
