Both trucks will empty your wallet. The only difference is the money spent on the Tacoma will be for mods that enhance the truck and the money spent on the Ram will be for repair bill after repair bill.

Most important. Why is a vehicle sitting with 5K on the odo, and someone got rid of it ? Sales rep will tell you anything just to get rid of something. A big hulk sitting in the driveway, maintenance and cost of tires, etc., etc.

Many reasons could account for that. Most likely though it was a loaner vehicle for the dealership.

Sometimes it takes me a bit to make a decision but I don't look back once I do. Seems like an exercise in futility.

Assuming you're in TN based on your username. Just curious what dealer you are working with? And is it auto or manual?

So much fan boy in this thread. According to you guys, no truck even runs for a week straight, without breaking down, except the mighty Tacoma, just keep on saying things that you heard one year.

    1. People offered up their anecdotal evidence.
    2. There were several "my Taco was not that reliable" posts.
    3. This is a Tacoma forum.

You seem to be salty that people in a forum dedicated to all things Toyota Tacoma would be inherently biased in favor of it. Maybe you're just jealous that you're the unfortunate owner of a GM product without a place to go to shitpost about it.

Funny you say that, the last Toyotas I had, had way more problems then my present 3/4 ton. I like Tacomas, but to listen to assholes like you, it makes me laugh, and feel bad you have no real insight on anything.

You went from a state where you don't have to deal with Southeast Toyota Distributors to one that does? Why oh why would you expose yourself to those way overpriced distributor installed options if you didn't have to? Not criticising at all, just wondering. If it wasn't so far from south Florida I'd drive up to your area to buy.

Presumably, if he's ordering one through the dealer, he's going to be getting one with the specific packages and accessories/options he wants, and it doesn't matter that they go hog wild on dealer adds, because they won't be doing that for his.

Also, that's not exclusive to any single region. Many of the places I worked with didn't want to order me a truck through their allocation. Rather, they wanted to find one that was similar (nevermind they kept offering me DCSB AT models instead of the ACLB 6MT I wanted. It's a Tacoma, right?) and throw on the package/accessory options I wanted for double or triple what Toyota charged for work done at the factory. $900 for LED headlights. $1500 for the exhaust. $800 for the blackout package. Their solution to my wanting a truck with Entune and carplay/androidauto was to take it to a car audio place and have them put in a sound system that they would turn around and charge me $4000 for. It's an easy way for any dealer to make money, and a great way to turn a $38k truck into a $50k truck where that extra $12000 is almost pure profit.

Just because people disagree with you and are passionate about something you're not doesn't mean they are wrong, have no insight, or justifies your insulting them. The OP asked for opinions, we related our personal experiences, and he made his decision about his truck just like you made yours.

"Insight" is the key word here.

Forums in general often become echo chambers on multiple levels. A poster asks for a tire recommendation and the responses center on personal preference without reference to specific use or even experience without other brands. Same with armor, same with just about any mod.

A thread like this devolves into people bashing the reliability of any brand that's not Toyota....often with no direct experience to back it up. I've owned several brands and I hold onto my Toyotas I bought my 80 brand new and still own it. However, I have put abuse on GM products and RAM products that would have turned a tacoma into a pile of mush and rust. As a fleet owner, we have have put millions of miles on RAM, Ford and Chevys over the last 35 years and a I can say that RAM and Chevy HD trucks have proven excessively reliable. Probably the best truck I ever owned was a 2006 LBZ Chevy 2500. 250K miles and not a damn thing went wrong with it and I got top dollar for it when I sold it.

A casual browser of this very subform could glean that 3rd gen Toyotas are shit heaps due to the incessant bitching and mewling over every little problem that pops up. Toyota mans up and recalls the fuel pump, and we are rewarded with 30 pages of hand wringing and whining about how reliability is taking a shit and how Toyota is screwing us all. Howling rear diffs, leaking lights, weeping rear diffs, bad fuel pumps, leaking timing belt covers, I could go on but most of you get the point. Someone asks about a ford diesel. One of you peruse a Ford forum and run back here squawking and flapping about how shitty fords are based on a sampling of posts, buy you've never owned a ford. You have no insight...you have a next to worthless opinion gleaned from - at best - second hand anecdotal info.

Remember that the next time you ask for a recommendation and get a smattering of opinions from people who have only run one brand of shock on their taco, or one brand of tire... or who are so emotionally invested in whatever they purchase that they are willing to badmouth another brand without any direct experience with it.
