It is like the constant posts on my local Tacoma page on Facebook. "Drove around the block with them but going a different direction" and then proceeds to ask the price they paid new lol.

Ha! yeah, the top collar being beat up is definitely a big bummer. And I think its indicative that a novice wrencher put this together instead of a mechanic. I will definitely be going over it with a fine tooth comb. The skid and sliders look brand new, so I dont think its been off road very much.

From the truck, I would keep the Prinsu, Sliders, Warn Winch, Bumper, CaliRaised lights, Tires, skid plates, suspension (UCAs and kings), ect. That alone is worth about $8000 to $10,000 to me. I would replace the wheels and grill. Considering I can't find a 2018 TRD off road with under 20k miles for less than 35k right now, I think its a fair deal. Also, I should mention that I am getting $3500 over on my trade in since they can't negotiate on the price of the truck, so I am really getting it for closer to 36K.

I would stay away from that thing. If they couldn’t take the time to do that top collar correctly, what else didn’t they take the time for.
And why would anyone here admit to it being their former truck… unless it was a properly done truck and they were proud of it.
It is clearly neither of those things.

but you do you OP. Seems like you already have your mind made up.

I don’t see how they’re being a couple of scratches on the top collar would be another truck was not put together correctly. I am sure somebody really enjoyed this truck, just because some folks on here don’t care for the lights or the wheels does it mean it’s a complete bust.

I think what he’s trying to say is that those marks aren’t from a person offroading and having fun, they are from an installer who was alright with not using the correct tools for the job ( or otherwise taking shortcuts ). He’s saying this could be an indication of how other things on the truck could have been installed or treated. It is a cool build but if someone was taking shortcuts or not using the correct tools you could end up with a real lemon at your expense.

totally agree and even said something very similar earlier in the thread. My intent is to look it over and it should be clear pretty quickly if someone took short cuts. I just don’t think some rub on the top collar of the shocks should in and of itself rule out a truck. They might have been used shocks. Or it might have just been a short lapse in judgement/patience and the original owner tried to tighten them down a bit after adding the bumper or something.

I just don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. This truck has 10k in upgrades. It’s worth a look in my mind

Exactly this. The installer didn’t take any care in finer details of the install.

I was just stating my own preference when looking at major purchases. Stuff like that, the small/fine details that were neglected, can mean much larger issues. But I’m also an anal retentive prick.

    Enjoy your truck OP.

I'm most interested to see what the under-hood wiring looks like. With that many lights, I hope they have an auxiliary fuse block, otherwise I'm predicting a rat's nest.
