Dealer just quoted me $300 for a ‘kit’ that they must have in order to spray my frame, on account of my aftermarket modifications. The two modifications include:

    1) OEM TRD-Pro front skid
    2) BAMF bolt-on sliders

Any ideas about why i’d need this ‘kit’ to have my frame sprayed?

Sounds like a huge money grab to me. Only kit I'm aware of is covered under the recall where they spray goop on the frame and inspect. This is a no-charge item.

Dealers heads explode when they see aftermarket mods that get in their way of doing a job, I'm guessing the sliders would have to be removed and they are trying to get money to do it.

It sounds like the service writer's jet ski payment is late.

You have to de modify it for them to work on it otherwise there is a liability issue. That's just the way they think and how Toyota tells them to do it. Don't kill the messenger I'm not the one that made the rules.

I don't really see how bolt on sliders justify a $300 up-charge. I could maybe see if it had an RCI full length skid plate package covering the entire taint of the truck

Scam. They would be removing OE side steps without issue or skid on a Pro.

OE steps dont bolt to the frame like sliders do. They bolt to the under side of the cab. So they would not be removing them for the recall.

Im guessing they are not concerned with the pro skid plate since the stock tinfoil plate covers the same parts anyways.

Really? All they did was spray some goop inside my frame rails. Nothing on the outside of the frame and it is rusting. I doubt they used 2 cans of goop with what I saw used.
Thats why they call them Stealerships. If its covered by the warrantee let them do it. Dont let any dealership touch it if not covered.

take it to a different dealer or tell them you refuse to pay. when i had the frame replaced on my 2006 several years ago the dealer wanted to charge me for re-installing my aftermarket bumper, suspension, etc... i told them if their product wasn't defective, i wouldnt have to be going through this and there was no way i was paying (i think they wanted $600). we had some back and forth. they eventually did it for free.

Thanks for the replies. So their answer, paraphrased and thereabouts, was:

the BAMF sliders have a backing plate that they’ll have to shim and it covers certain holes that are exclusive insertion points for the wax and they’ll have to drill new holes and fashion plugs not included with the standard recall kit in order to cover the new holes they have to drill to complete the sealing in accordance with recall guidance for a completely sealed frame and so forth and so on…

I live in VA, they salt the roads like 3 times a year. I asked him how my frame looked from his visual inspection and he said it’s perfectly fine with no visible signs of rust. Why am I dealing with this shit to begin with? Isn’t it going to start getting a lot warmer anyway?

Sounds like you should just take off the sliders, have the recall done then reinstall them.

Ask them to skip the goo coating, and honor the frame replacement at a latter date.

Simple......remove the skid plate and sliders yourself. Have the dealer or another dealer do the work. Reinstall at your leisure and keep the $300.

This isn't flying around the earth.

as I understand it, there will be a few plugs that will not flush with the frame which will keep the slider from remounting flush with the frame.

    Just gonna find another dealer

    peace & love

Just take those plugs back out when you go to put your sliders back on. Its not like they are welding them on, its just a plastic plug.
