Okay we are definitely living in the same area. Note to self: avoid Chantilly Toyota. I don't know if you'd be willing to drive, but a lot of folks in the area like Battlefield Toyota in Culpepper. I've only used Miller Toyota in Manassas and I wasn't all that impressed. I sure would like to know what criteria Toyota is using to select the trucks to do this on. I have yet to receive anything about it from Toyota. That AND the fuel pump deal.

If the earth is flat, then you won't be able to fly around it. You'll fall off, then no problem.

That recall pays really well, they are crazy to lose customers like that.

I'd be happy to get your truck.

Fair enough but even then just unbolt the damn thing and move on. I would imagine it is the DIY price as they do not want to do it themselves lol.

Yep it's a Jedi mindfuck. Getting the customer to take it off before he brings it in.

The problem is more that the sliders cover holes that the recall requires a plug on. Since the slider is there the plug will not fit and the recall can not be performed correctly. If they can not perform the recall correctly, then there are issues.

The sliders covering the holes does do the same thing as the plugs, but since its not outlined in the recall its not a official fix and cant be warrantied.

If the customer removes his sliders, gets the recall done, then removes the plugs (and saves them) and reinstalls the sliders there is not much of a issue. But the dealer can not change the recall to fit custom mods on a truck unless its outlined in the recall.

I bet the sliders will go right over the holes with the plugs still in them. Unless they use them for mounting holes.

Yeah, but they would not fit flush or sit right. Go take 2 pieces of flat heavy gauge steel, now put a thin piece of plastic between them and see if you can get them to bolt flat. Remember, much of the strength of the sliders is going to rely on it being clamped flat against the frame rails.

If you had a thin plastic plug between the slider and the frame, and you hit something with the slider, its going to shatter the plastic plug and cause the slider to move.

Isn't there an actual law that prevents dealers from not doing warranty work if the modification has no bearing on the area in question? I would imagine outside of lifts or performance parts everything else is basically cosmetic and has nothing to do with the frame of the truck. If anything I would imagine a skid plate and sliders would provide more protection.

Sliders provide zero protection from rust that the recall is to prevent, I would actually say that they could make it worse as the sliders start to rust and the rust from the sliders spreads to the frame. Sliders have 100% to do with the frame of a truck as they bolt right to the frame.

But you are referring to the magnuson moss act, it pretty much just means that they have to prove your mods caused the malfunction.
