Tried this on the Off-Roading & Trails thread, but no dice. Need some suggestions.

Hi all. We've been RV people for a while and sold our rig a little while ago. Now looking to take the Tacoma on weekend camping trips in the NC, VA and WV mountains where there are some easy to mild mountain trails. Not the extreme overland stuff quite yet, but good views where I'll see less cars. My '21 SR5 4x4 DCSB isn't built for the hard stuff yet so dirt roads and mild trails are good, but hard stuff is not going to happen for a while. Any suggestions on trails or roads we can hit for a Friday/Saturday/Sunday round trip would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your truck, stock, will take you places you will be scared to take it. It does not have to be built to go hard places.you just gotta know how to drive.

Very true. I have a '13 TRD OR that has taken me quite a few places. We just haven't hit the trails in quite some time and have been RV people for a while. Jumping back into it slowly.

Having a stock 4x4 gives you more options for challenging your rig and yourself.

The more you build your 4x4 the more stuck you get.

Look up Mckendree Road. It runs between the ghost town of Thurmond and a little place called Prince in Southern WV near Beckley. It's been five years since I was last across it but the views of the New River are spectacular. A stock Tacoma can do it but it is a bit butt clenching because you are near cliffs some. Also check mud puddle depth before going in.

i'm up in northern virginia (manassas) and i head out to western va/west va all the time to go camping and very light offroading if i can find anything (haven't found much really...). open to any suggestions. the closer, the better but i do understand you have to travel to get away from the people.
