    samsung 40 inch class lcd hdtv. i knew it had one when i bought it.......but was told that using a splitter was fine.

    Hold the phone , it just dawned on me , why not leave your PS3 hooked up with component cables? Component is capable of carrying 1080P .

    Hdmi can carry video and audio , with component , it only carries video , so you need to connect the audio seperately. As far as video quality , it has been debated tons in AV forums and most agree the difference is negligeble .

    getting there....
    alright.........i went and got a 3 in/1 out switcher and got it working. my problem now...is when i turn the receiver off and switch to the ps3.....the screen and all comes up as it should.........but there is some staticy crap and popping to it. these lines come up from the bottom with the static looking pixelation in it...and it pops. any idea what that is?

    Sounds like a crappy connection , try moving the PS3 cord to the empty port on the splitter and see if you have the same interference.

    i just did that....and it seems worse that way for some reason. weird thing....the tv looks fine and doesnt pop and shit while switched to the direct tv receiver.....but on ps3....it does.

    Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
    may need to mess with the video settings on the PS3. may be something not agreeing between the PS3 and tv

    Unplug the receiver from the splitter , does the PS3 work without the static on it's own?

    Some devices don't get along with splitters , you really can just stick with component cables for the PS3 , do you plan to get an AV receiver ? ie surround sound receiver
