More than one responder attempted to alert the OP that there were clues this truck may be less than a bargain.

The beat to death shock collar being a glaring example. The gouges on the collar illuminates much more about the truck's history to anyone that has done more than an oil change. The damage is from taking a steel rod and driving the ring in circles, while the shock was installed and no attempt was made to unload the spring before adjusting the ring. Just beat the shit out of it with a 4 lb hammer and a steel rod.

2 possibilities: a clueless self modifier or 3rd rate "mechanic" that didn't give a shit was responsible for this beat up shock collar...and it's a giant clue that there will probably be several other sketchy issues or absolute disasters that will show up, probably after you buy it.

Well, for starters it has been smoked in. That in and of itself was a deal breaker.

it looked like all of the parts on it were used parts when they were installed. Everything just looked worse for wear for a vehicle with only 17k miles. It was a nice build and drove well, but the clutch was toast which tells me the person who bought it didn’t know how to drive a stick. It has Dakar lead springs that had a ton of scratches on them. Which is odd. The top collar on the kings was worse than it looked in the pictures. And so on.

At the end of the day, pictures only tell part of the story. I stand by the fact that if the only issue was the top collar on the kings was beat up, I probably would have still bought it. I take really great care of my dirtbikes, but the top collar on the top of rear shock is a pain in the ass to get to so I often will just use a screw driver to adjust it. Yes it makes it looks a little beat up, but it doesn’t affect the shock negatively. I figured this could have been a similar situation.

y’all can have fun with the “I told you so” but I think everything happens for a reason. TRD Pro 4Runners are preordered months in advance just about everywhere. This one is due in 5 days and someone pulled their deposit on it right before I got there so I was able to buy it. I was happy to make the drive for that. Not to mention, they will deliver the 4runner when it gets here next week so I don’t have to make the drive twice.

Also, I should just mention, some of y’all have become grumpy, sarcastic, butt heads. I haven’t been super active on this forum for a while but it seems like it’s changed.

Yeah I read the thread. I was asking OP (who answered the next post down) what specifically the issues were once he got there and looked in person. I would also agree with him that a beat up adjustment collar on a coilover isn't a big deal so I was curious about other stuff.

Theres the pre-pandemic tacoma buyers who got a discount and love talking about trading in their 2 year old truck for the same price and then there's the msrp+ buyers who are slightly salty and have to wait for their delivery.

I personally liked this thread. Sucks there are a fair amount of jerks on the forums. I was in the "don't buy it camp", but it was fun to watch you follow through and make an ultimate decision.

People being dicks makes the quality of threads go down.

My point exactly. You’re a child.

for those of you wondering. DBAP is an unconfrontational, cowardly way of saying don’t be a pussy. 44-16 Taco is exactly what I was referring to when I said this forum has gone downhill.

glad to see some OG posters and people who are still contributing instead of trolling.

Have noticed the same thing in some cases but on the flip side some folks post seeking advice when in reality they have already made up their mind and are just seeking high fives from others that they made the right choice.

When others offer advice that was asked for they are then labeled as the problem, its never that it wasn't a good deal or that the poster wasn't as skilled at negotiations as they thought they were.

Dude it wouldn't matter what truck you posted in here. It could have been bone stock and there would be a bunch of idiots telling you it's an overpriced POS. You did the right thing, checked it out and walked away with something else

The forum is still useful and there are still a lot of cooperative people on here. But... when asking for input, especially on something with mods, the trolls come out of the woodwork. The grumpy/no filter ones I don't mind since I prefer the honesty, at least on the functional stuff. As for the aesthetic stuff, to each his own. Just because I don't like it, doesn't mean someone else can't. If someone was happy looking at their truck with those wheels, and that grille, Kudos to them. For others you have to translate the tacomaworld lingo ----> That thing has more lights than the helicopter from Independence Day = I would not put that many lights on my truck.

That flooding comment went so under the radar that I thought it got disregarded as a joke....
