I shoot 300 Win Mag at that range. I haven't went and got a 338 Lapua or the 408 CheyTac yet. The longest I shoot the handguns at is 200 and I'm using 10mm and 454 Casull for that. It's a hobby.

Yep, and 16" is mighty tiny looking when you're 3000 feet away, even with 24X. In the picture below, the small white dots on the far end of the field are 18x18" steel plates, from 450 to 1150 yards. We were told "not to shoot at the black dots", which were beef cattle. The 1125 yard target is circled. Way up on the mountain, out of view to the right, is a 50 foot clearing with a plate at a mile away.

Rarified air there. Most can’t identify a target at that range. And if you are shooting at that range you aren’t shooting subsonic rounds.

Every rifle I own will likely out shoot me with off the shelf ammunition. Yet I reload. Not to squeeze the most accuracy/energy but for economy and reliability.

    That's cool.
Many years ago, I spent a weekend qualifying to purchase a Garand from the DCM. We were shooting iron sights at 1000yds. Range had a bunker with garage doors holding the targets. I remember the bullseye being the size of a dinner plate.

And consistency from shot to shot, especially when you're shooting at ranges where your bullet is approaching trans sonic speeds and may start becoming unstable.

When we (my cousin and a couple of his friends) did this long-range course, we sent the instructor our load data and specs on our rifles (barrel length and action type) and he worked up ballistic charts for us. I tried to post mine but the file is unsupported and won't load for some reason. I shoot a 123 grain Lapua Scenar match bullet with a .650 BC and the powder load I use (CFE-223 at 30.63 grains) gets me to 1150 yards before going subsonic, with a 2650 fps MV from a 20" barrel. My rounds are all within 0.075 grains of each other in powder load, which is the limit of my scale, and it takes a while to trickle them to that precision. It pays off, though, when shooting that far.

The other guys that day were all shooting .308 Winchester, two from Remington bolt guns and one from an AR10, and they all shot with suppressors, while my Grendel has a muzzle brake. They shot heavier 178 grain match bullets with a slightly better BC than mine, and we were all hitting in the 1125-1150 yard range.

Very true. The optic on the weapon plays a very big role in it at that range. The only time I use subsonic is in the .300 blk. It will reach out to about 300 accurately but drops off really fast after that.

I need to get the stuff for reloading. I shoot of the shelf right now and that gets expensive quick with some rounds.

Yep expensive. But today’s factory ammo is really good. Once you find a load your rifle likes it will out shoot all but the very, very best shooters.

I’ve pushed a 178gr eld .308 out of a 20 inch tube at 1500y. Remaining velocity was about 300 fps lol. Part of a sniperhide challenge some years ago.

This is shooting beyond danger space as you are basically flipping the bullet into the target, so factory ammo just doesn’t cut it. ES needs to be in single digits.

I've had one for over a year, can't remember how long exactly. I had two failure to ejects within the first 200 rounds. Been good since then. I only run it suppressed now and it's been great. I run HK mags and the two metal mags that came with it. HK mags used to be $66 a gunmagwarehouse.

My brace didn't go on all that easily. I finally took a dremel to it and it's still a tight fit. Which is ok.

That's for sure. I ran out of reticle, and was holding over based on estimated drop. I picked a tree limb above the target as my hold point, took two shots before i got it onto the steel, but then I could bang it all day unless the wind changed. My ballistics chart indicated a 46.9 MOA drop to the target at 1125 yards, I only had 42 MOA available on my scope at that range. Talk about rainbow trajectory. I've since replaced the 0 MOA scope mount with a 20 MOA mount to get the needed elevation for shooting that long.

Ok, question for the group. I have a Ruger 10/22 Takedown Target with a Nikon Prostaff 4-12 BDC and Caldwell bipod. It is shooting about an 8 inch grouping at 25 yards. I've taken the barrel off and put it back to make sure it is locked up tight. Checked the optic and mounts are all tight. Checked the bipod is tight. I can't find any reason for it to be shooting like that. It should be grouping within a dime at that range.

Yes I know it isn't me. That was actually my first thought. I switched over to my AR in 300 BLK and grouped the rounds touching. I can't figure out what is causing it to be that big of a spread. Any ideas?

My first thought is your ammo. I use Eley 38gr, but every barrel is different, and you must find what stabilizes best in your particular setup. Additionally, I would check for any damage to the barrel crown.

Checked the crown. It's treaded so I look at it all the dang time to make sure the tread protector isn't loosening up. Ammo should have that big of a difference at that short of a distance I don't think. I could be wrong.
