Just curious, why would a personal lubricant manufacturer have engineers?

I'm a fan of form follows function. Do you have plants on integrating accessory buttons and the like?

Let me get this project off the ground and then I'll definitely try and show some love to the second gen guys. I don't have a second gen to base fitment off of but I'll see what I can do

I like the idea like the meso knob but if I take a stab at it it'll probably be a while. I originally started this with form completely in favor over function, almost like part art piece lol but we'll see. I'll know more about side projects like buttons once I get a few printed out. Lots of hurdles first.

Since you're going to be 3D printing them, I suggest you add an option to have the boot retention clip integrated into the design, if the customer desires. There are a few workarounds for us with custom knobs, but why not offer a pure drop-in replacement option for those who don't wanna deal with the other workarounds for the boot (and aren't so anal about de-chroming haha).

Good luck, I look forward to seeing the first prototype!

I like this, too. There is a TW member in the third gen forums who added an led light behind the TRD emblem and was selling them (Oostrama I think?) so maybe an option for a light? Just my two cents. Props to being creative and look forward to seeing more renderings.

I'm in if there are buttons in the future. 2 would be awesome.

Alright, so I figured I would share my plan as it stands right now just to get it out there. The first question I got asked on here was where I would be selling these, and I have since decided to start a small online shop dedicated to these knobs and anything else I come up with in the future. Going this route with my own website give me the ability to implement a really nice visual customization experience so you can choose from all of the different options available at release (buttons, lights, colors, etc) and see what they look like before you buy (like customizing a pair of Nikes.) At the rate I'm going, assuming there are no structural/durability issues, it should only be a couple of weeks before we're near that stage. I've got the printer running right now with the first prototype so (assuming it prints successfully) I should have some pictures of a real-life knob on here tomorrow after work. For now though, I'll share two of my favorite colorways thus far :)

OK first of all: LOVE IT! Sets this apart from the standard TRD shifter with the primary color not being black....

    Second:

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

These are gonna be a hit here, I just hope I get in on the first run :)

EDIT: I wanted to mention that some others brought up a good point - you may run into issues using that TRD especially in the clone font... MIGHT be worth considering doing these renders and sample photos with 'ABC' on it or something; I have seen companies do this with the faux grilles. GLWS!

Way too early to tell honestly. There are a couple main things that concern me about the final product, the strength of the lattice portions and the durability of the finishes. After I get a prototype put together Ill know alot more about both of those but I can more than likely redesign the lattice structures to make them stronger, it's just a matter of how much stronger I can make them without sacrificing aesthetics. I personally won't allow myself to sell something that I think has a chance of fail structurally, because my selling reputation would disappear and the hate in my email would be incredible lol. BUT, assuming I'm 100% pleased with everything, and again it's really early, I'm thinking around $120 to $130 for a base model, colored however you want, and then additional cost if I can manage some buttons, LED's, etc.

Sorry for the long winded response but I wanted to say that lol

Also I could probably kick in a TW discount code if you guys keep up the good comments :D

EDIT: ALSO, I just checked before I go to work to make sure the print didn't fail over night and we're good, should have it out together and on here with an update by tonight.

Cool shift knob. What material are you making it out of? Be careful of TRD. Toyota’s legal dept. have been on kick lately

Probably going to try phrozen's engineering series of resin, that's the strongest stuff Ive printed with so far. And yeah I wont be posting anything else with TRD on it thanks for the warnings

Haven’t tried that resin but heard good things about it. Also, are you modeling the threads internally or maybe integrate a metal threaded insert for increased strength…

A couple months ago I printed a mad max skull shift knob I got off thingiverse and altered to make it fit the tacoma, but for it I modeled a cavity at the top of the hole that held a lock nut to thread on to the shifter. It worked great and thats probably what Im going to try and do for this, maybe 2 nuts sitting in top of eachother to hold it even tighter. Open to other ideas though, I don't think internal threading will be strong enough.
