Between work and other little projects. I tend to get sidetracked on 5hings I am working on in the shop. And seeing what you and others building and.designing. keeps the gazillion projects in the forefront.

Kinda like the belt grinder I am building. So I can use it to help male parts for other projects.

 

Designing the quick attach bracket. Took a pic of the bracket on one of the existing brackets. The bracket is 8" long. With that info I was able to "calibrate" the picture to exactly what size the bracket needs to be.

 

When copying pictures to F360, you are inserting a "canvass".

I used the measuring tool to tell the computer that the lengtn was exactly 8". Once I did that, the computer "calibrated" an enlarged the picture huge! I had to zoom in to get the picture you see and then I could trace it using the various "line" tools.

 

Picture is now turned into a traced image. I still need to give it some thickness by "extruding" or using the "press/pull" command.

I copied the original tracing and am pasting it to the position you see. Once I hit enter there will be 2 of the tracing. It works very similar to the copy/paste taht you use with your computer.

I can now move over to the manufacturing section to create the Gcode (about 12 more mouse clicks).

 

Damn!

I forgot to round off the top of the bracket! That is called "fillet". Just takes a few mouse clicks to make that happen.

 

Hi-lift?

 

Any tig Aluminum welders in central or coastal Oregon area? I need a fix on my camper screen door hinge… about a two inch weld. Help!

 

Is a hi-lift another name for pallet forks?

I'm making quick attach brackets for a claw bucket for this little guy. .

 

I got the quick attach brackets and the lower bucket jaws cut out.

Just need to weld the layers together and then weld them to the cross bars.

I still need to cut out the upper jaws, but ran out of time.

 

Aluminum or steel? Steel you could easily braze with a mapp torch.

 

Or buy the aluminum brazing rods at home depot

It takes much longer when you have to hunt for pieces of sheet metal big enough for the part you want. Still having fun.

Chipped off the dross and quick flap wheeled the parts for a partial mock up.

 

Anyone wanna recommend an entry level welder for me? I don’t need a high end welder, but I don’t like to buy crap only to upgrade later, potentially multiple upgrades. Haha. What will $500 to $1000 get me? I am also good with recommendations for looking a for certain welder used.

My garage has 220 for my wood machines, so thinking probably a 220 model. But not stuck on that.

Intended use at this point is for automotive. I have aspirations for rear shock relocate and cmc for bigger tires, etc.. Also, I guess people like welded steel legs for their tables now in regards to wood working.

I have an angle grinder, bandsaw, etc.. so it seems I could really expand my horizons with a welder. Thanks.

 

I’m definitely not as experienced as a lot of people here, but I have a Vulcan MigMax 215 that I brought to work 3 yrs ago that has held up well to a bunch of different experience levels, mostly small projects, probably only 40-50 lbs of wire through it, but am extremely impressed with it, as are the more experienced guys at work. I also have the other Harbor freight brand, Titanium 140 at home for also small stuff, which is decent also. I prefer the Vulcan though. Both of those will accomplish what you are looking for, as I’ve used both for some of the exact stuff you are looking at using it for.

The Vulcan is dual voltage, which has come in handy, where the Titanium is 120v.

 

Thank you! I will look into it. I should have mentioned earlier that there is no HF in Hawaii. I kinda wish we did, for certain things.

 

Check out the Hobart handler then. Whatever one is in that price range and does 120/240.

Hobart 210 is their only dual voltage mig welder I believe. Great unit.

they also just released a multi process machine that competes with the Lincoln 210 MP, and that might be dual voltage also
