Can you take a piece of wire and hook it and pull it through?

That’s what I want to do with the fish but I think I need a bigger hole in the wall to find it when I feed down from the attic. Just wanted to know if there’s a better way.

Can you cut a wire coat hanger and use it?

I don’t have a wire coat hanger but I have a flexible grabber that could do the same thing. Good idea. Thanks!

It’s too hot this afternoon to go into the attic so I’ll try that tomorrow morning.

Got a short piece of 12/2 wiring? Anything small and rigid that you could bend a hook onto the end.

How big of a hole do you have? If you're surely in the same stud cavity a standard single gang box opening should be sufficient to find a wire or fish.

How are you sure the fish made it to the ground from the attic?

I can figure something out for sure!

I only cut a 3/8” hole so far and I’m certain that I’m in the right spot. Lots of trips up and down the ladder into the attic measuring to make sure. I was planning to cut the single gang hole when I got to this point but the blockage when feeding up has me scratching my head.

We have 10 foot ceilings and my fish made it about 10’6” down from the attic so I’m reasonably sure it’s at the ground. I even marked and measured my fish because I thought it was lying to me. It was so now I’m pretty sure.

In an attic, in August, in Houston. Sounds brutal.

Was just about to type something similar. haha Def get a single gang and make it clean!

Another idea can be if you have a fishing wire. Id so cut about 12ft of fishing wire and tie a weight or some washers on it and drop it down the hole.

Run your fish tape down from the attic. Get someone to listen at the stub bay, and wiggle the fish tape. If they can hear it, you can cut a 1-gang hole in the wall, tie a string or your wire to the tape, and pull it up.

Got our LVL ridge beam installed yesterday .

Set to cutting the rafters this morning and noticed something I haven't seen in 35 years as a carpenter . My rafter stock is 20' SPF 2x10 and what was delivered was J-Grade which is material intended for the Japanese export market that occasionally finds it's way into our local domestic market in BC . The J-Grade material is always nice , no wane edge and very small knots and I've seen lots of that over the years but what was different with this stack is about 1/2 the boards were also stamped "CLEAR" on the ends and were they ever clear . Beautiful material . Obviously some kind of niche J-Grade market for clears .

Inside shot of how the vault will look

Rafters up , need to cut the tails to align with the trusses and detail the top of the rake walls before we add the rafters to either rake wall . The rafters for those spots are up there but just tacked to their neighbours

Lumbers coming down in our area now. 7/16 osb is $21, and was $53 a month or so ago. 2x4 is $4, down from $10. Still higher than normal but at least it’s trending down.

Looks like we got it right!

Wall plate should be in from Amazon tomorrow. I’m putting a dual coax and Ethernet plate on it since I’ll do the same run for my WiFi access point. Strange that I couldn’t find any of those at Lowe’s or Home Depot, but it’s whatever.

EDIT: And thanks again to the folks who helped out yesterday!

When they built this house they did those runs in Cat5e, but the cables are all dead ended in the attic and not connected to anything. I'm leaving those as is and putting the wireless AP in the ceiling in the middle of the house. I already terminated and connected the office and the living room but for now everything else can run on wifi.

    Really? HOOK THAT UP!! lol
Cat5e is good, you can run a lot off of that. I have all my tvs hard wired into the walls. I also have a switch from the wall in the office that wire direct to me and my girls computers. I also have my Linksys Mesh devixes connected by wire. You will get the most speed out wired as you know. Wifi is only for my phone, ipad and macbook if i work anywhere besides my office.

    My set up.
