Update!!! I got the police report today and the jerk had the nerve to tell the cops that I hit him! He said he was parking and I rear-ended him. What a load of crap. I left a recorded statement with my insurance company and he did too. They told me he said that I apologized for hitting him and that I couldn't stop. All I know is the insurance company better not find me at fault. They have to look at the vehicles, report and statements and then they'll make their decision.

I got two estimates for about $1500. I have to bring it to an Allstate shop tomorrow for their inspection.
    ______________________________________________________

On my way to my mom's house this morning...there was a car in front of me and a stop sign at the corner. Before he got to the corner, he saw a parking spot so he slammed on his brakes and backed up....RIGHT INTO ME!!!

I was about 5 feet behind him when I saw his back-up lights come on. I automatically stepped on the brake and was ready to throw it in reverse when he floored it. I couldn't believe how hard he hit me.

There's a nice hole in my bumper and my skid plate is bent. Too bad I didn't have an All Pro Off-Road bumper. I would've told him to hit me again.

Nice way to start Thanksgiving. The cops showed and took our info. Here are some pics...

That's just plain stupid. How do you just throw a vehicle into reverse and slam on the gas without looking first? DUH.

Yes it could've been alot worse. I'm glad it's only the bumper that got damaged.

He claims that I was in his blind spot and he didn't see me. He was driving a small car. How do you NOT see this huge red truck behind you????

I just may go get that all pro off-road bumper too...but only if it comes with a hot guy instead of a gal. :)

Be careful! He just might change his story and claim that you rear ended him.

You will end up having to pay.

I hope you reported it, and got a detailed police report.

I've seen it happen before. If you don't have his story on a police report?

If he tries to change his story? You will NOT be able to win, unless you have a witness or the report.

    Good Luck!

Ouch. Hopefully he doesn't tell the insurance company that you rear ended him.

    Edit:
Could also be the "Red Curse". My Dad had a red Camery growing up, and people would hit that thing left, right and center. Somehow they just didn't see it.

I get the police report in about a week. I don't know what he told the cop but he better not have said I hit him. When it first happened, he kept asking if we could not go through the insurance. I had someone in the car with me and he had already called the cops though. I hope he didn't change his story with the cops because we called them.

Damage doesn't look too bad, but my wife's 4runner got hit in a parking lot, small dent, about 1500 to fix it. Glad no one was hurt and what a terrible way to start of a holiday weekend. Good luck.

Some blind spot! What did his car look like?

A bumper cover ($258), skid plate ($180), brace ($35), paint & materials ($270) & refinishing ($400) - looks like $1100 bucks unless your lower black grill is cracked. I hit black ice last winter

Glad you are ok, its one of those "is this person really doing this" and before the thought is finished - BAM, "yup they are". Still is a big bummer and a hassle. Keep your chin up.

Sorry to hear about this. Glad you weren't hurt, but I'm sure it made for a lousy holiday. Atleast you have a witness in case the guy tries to say you hit him. Hope all works out for you.

Hopefully, he told the cop that you were in his blind spot also. It wouldn't make sense to say that if you hit him.

    That's no good.

I hope that you get a good settlement from the insurance company. With your statement to the police, you should be able to get it taken care of. I can say that has to be one of the dumbest maneuvers I have ever heard of. If he flips it on you and you have a police report; then it is time to take that con-artist to the cleaners.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

BTW - did you get any pictures of the scene and the other vehicle?

Thanks guys. I should have the report by mid-next week so I'll see how it goes then. If he was honest with the cops, his insurance will take care of everything. I got one estimate today for about $1200 which includes replacing the entire bumper and skid plate, painting the bumper and labor. I'm going to get another estimate or two early next week.

This is the only pic I have of his car. I should've taken another closer one.

Hi. What is that behind his car? I can't really make it out in the picture.
    Thanks

Yea we both had to move our cars because it was a busy street and other cars had to pass. He parked on one side and I parked on the other, then someone came and parked behind him.
