...And then, just as we were going to head out of town, the rain let up a bit. I suggested to @mrs.turbodb that, "maybe we should just drive up the Hurricane Pass Road a little way, so you can get a better view." And then, I added, "No matter what, we'll turn around after half an hour at the most."

Famous. Last. Words. We were literally starting up a slippery slope.

Colorado is an EPIC place. I returned 2 weeks ago from a 10 trip from SoCal to CO. Grand Junction, Rocky Mt NP, Denver, Gunnison, San Juan's. Same issues with weather, but we did manage to make it up Imogene, Engineer, and parts of the Alpine Loop. There was a break in the weather so we were able to explore Animas Forks. Highly recommend it on a future trip! Super cool place where you can safely explore the inside of most buildings, as they have been partially restored.

Edit: We also happened upon Black Canyon. A road closure on the 50 forced us to take the 92 and follow Black Canyon and the Gunnison River. I was pissed for about 3 minutes until the canyon came into full view.

Dan, what drives you to link some stories to your website and some to your thread here on TW?

    Thanks!

Thanks! Gotta say, it's all nature's doing, really.

Hahahaha, nice. Always cool to have a detour turn into something amazing.

This is going to sound lame, but laziness and/or forgetfulness. And now I'll share way more than you probably wanted to know, hahaha.

When I write a story, I (obviously?) initially write it for my web site (which happens to use Wordpress on the back end). That means I write it as HTML (web pages). Of course, I want to share to TW since this forum is a big part of the reason I really got into this stuff, so I've also written some code that converts the HTML to BBCode (the markup of forums like TW), and what you see when you click on the little icon in the upper right (Untitled.jpg).

Anyway, at the same time I write the story, I also try to write a little blurb about it, and flag some of my favorite photos for when I share it. That blurb is stored with the story on the web site, and when I get around to publishing on the web site and posting to TW, I can just copy/paste it into the forum. Of course, at the time of writing the short blurb, the only link I have to the full story is the one on my web site (since I haven't posted to my build thread yet), so that's the link I put in.

I try to remember to update it with the build thread link when I post on TW, but I'm getting older and more forgetful than I like to acknowledge, so I probably only remember to update it about 50-75% of the time.
