What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

This is when I tell you I can speak Japanese and am an air traffic controller. Then follow it up with I know nothing about wiring lights. I'm just following the directions and using the harness KC provided. Did they likely send me the wiring harness for something with a smaller draw i.e. Flex Era 3 (3.4)?


From the power source before the relay is a 25A fuse. That wire goes to the relay, then spliced out of that same wire is a 3A fuse leading directly to the switch.

 

My guess it that you have the switch wire connected to the wrong place on the relay. The switch just tells the relay to open and close. The relay handles power delivery to the lights. There should be very little draw on the switch wire.

 

Few nearby fires again. A little hard not to notice.

 

Okay, so I'll add that there is only one way to plug the harness into the relay. So if your guess is correct, then the harness is wired incorrectly from KC? I say that because it's essentially "plug and play" assuming I've plugged things into the correct places.

I just added my bed rack and smitty bilt gen 2 xl tent. Can't wait to use it this week.

 

Unfortunately, KC doesn't provide the wiring diagram online, so I don't know how the harness is prewired. All we can see from the initial post is that the the amperage in the circuit with the 3A fuse is exceeding 3A.

 

- Relay plugged in the only way it can be.
- Yellow ring terminal to battery.
- Black ring terminal to ground.
- Switched wired as instructed in the diagram.
- Only weird thing to me is how the diagram illustrates that the green wire is in the center, but then states that yellow goes to center of switch.

Yeah, I looked for one also. I've posted an image of the one that came in the box a few posts ahead.

 

Installed my new coverking seat covers this morning then took it for a drive to pick up my new work trailer.

 

Got my ball/hitch for the upcoming tow/move.



Also got my hood wrap scheduled for before we leave.

The picture is incorrect in the diagram. The yellow wire should be in the center of the switch. That activates the relay. The writeup in the diagram is correct describing the connection order.

 

Got it, that's how I wired it (yellow center).

 

You might want to get a hitch lock if you don't have one yet. I had a ball/hitch stolen in a Walmart parking lot years ago.

 

Added some 1x2 furring strips to the sides of each piece of plywood so that they fit between the 2x4 cross braces I have. also added a small furring strip piece to each cross brace to reduce lateral slide. Purposely kept the sides open so I can store stuff with easier access Probably going to add carpet and debating putting hinges on. I have the hinges, but the pieces slide in and out easy enough that I'm not sure I need to.

 

I'd like to actually see it turned on - and see the LCD display on top working.

Thank you for recommending... I actually got that, it's installed in the photo. It's black. Interestingly enough, I got the 3" and it wouldn't quite fit! Had to swap it with the 3.5" - the guy said "tacos should be 3" that's why I gave it to you..." Had him try it just to make sure I wasn't an idiot... Sure as **** the '21 needs a 3.5" apparently!

 

Yes it does!!! It is double walled for some reason. My 3/4 ton Chevy had a smaller hitch!
