I went to a Toyota dealer in the area and they said they're asking more for certain models than sticker price. Is this normal? I was looking at a TRD Sport and the sticker price was $35k and they were asking $37k. I guess it’s evening out since trade in values are so high right now.

Depends on the dealer as to if they do and how much, but it's not unusual in today's market. Because it can vary from dealer to dealer I would suggest shopping around.

Only $2,000 over sticker?... in some markets that is a bargain.

I picked up mine in March and sticker was $33,400. The truck was on their lot for less than 24 hours as I took
it for a test drive, ended up realizing I took the key home with me, went back to return the key and the wife
handed me the checkbook and said go get that truck.

Right now the exact specifications ( down to the color ) I'm seeing them go for $38,000. Checked last night and
there are now only 4 of them ( exact specs down to the color ) in the entire country for sale.

If you want that truck go in there with a big down payment and see if they will let it go for sticker... but don't wait
because more than likely it'll be gone in a few hours to either a customer there or another dealer elsewhere wanting it.

I don’t really follow the auto market. I have an older Tacoma and thinking about trading in.

Ok. Here in Sourhern CA things are going for MSRP except for TrD Pro going for 5k to 10k over.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
Central Coast - CA. Just bought my '21 TRD OR 4DCLB 2 weeks ago tomorrow. My 2 closest dealers (15 minutes in either direction from home) had little to nothing but used Tacomas at 3k to 5k MORE than MSRP on equivalent new trucks! I giggled! Of those 2 dealers, one had 1 new truck exactly how I wanted mine spec'd but it was silver. Meh. They had a $2500 "Market Adjustment" written in on the sticker. The dealer with no new stock was the same on their incoming allocations and $5k over on Forerunners. When I was considering the silver one, I told the shitty salesman that I wouldn't even consider paying that market adjustment and that I would start from MSRP. This insanity wouldn't last a whole lot longer and I'd wait if necessary. I let them value my trade which was a 3 year old vehicle with only 35k on the odometer and was perfect and I had the pink in hand. They dicked me around for 30 minutes on inspecting the trade and called me while I was on my way to a third dealer a little further out of the way that actually had what I wanted and they gave me a ridiculous lowball on my trade.

The 3rd dealer had my truck in a color I was happy with, the only new one on the lot, and they didn't have any mark ups on MSRP. Interestingly, the guy I dealt with was a Sales Mgr AND Finance Mgr. Pretty unusual. It was the easiest vehicle I have ever negotiated and a lot to do with that was his position. I had connected with him online originally but then I got the Covid plague and couldn't go buy the Army Green he had before it sold. I'm actually glad. I got white. $42k was MSRP. I ended up negotiating 3% off, got the $18k I wanted on my trade, and in the end, ended up with the Toyota Platinum VSP 10yr/125k full warranty for an extra $2500. I got the low rate on the portion I financed through Toyota FS which was the same I would get through my Credit Union. I knew they'd get thrown a bone if I went through TFS so I went for that.

We're going to buy a Rav4 or possibly a Highlander for my wife in the near future after things settle down in the market. I'll definitely be going back to that dealer when the time comes!
