Went in for service and guess what , there's a tsb/recall on it for water intrusion. They have the parts. Its free. Unfortunately I already applied clear silicone around which worked so I declined .

Wow, they changed the TSB to a service campaign. Time for lots of people to submit those reimbursement requests.

Damn, just got back from my local bodyshop. Had mine repaired for leaking/headliner stained. It was leaking around the top side. Gasket did not seal good. I had bought a revised unit, but repaired the old one as the new one, looks like it could leak over time. This shop I used to work for years ago, so my was done for free.

Our 2016 Taco is a double cab but I find no evidence that the high mount brake light is, or has been, leaking.

Is there any way to tell if this leakage had already been dealt with? I find no sign of any sealants around the light fixture and obviously there is not indication within the interior that the fixture has been replaced.

Just bring it in. They will replace the gasket seal leaking or not.

Son of a bitch. I just finished dealing with Toyota on this to no avail. Even had a lawyer send a letter requesting payment for the repair. They replied saying essentially - thanks for your feedback we are going to do nothing but record the incident and fuck you have a nice day.

I just took it out myself (pain in the ass) and put in a new gasket. Unfortunately, the light is broken, bolt broke free from the assembly where it's held in by cheap plastic, so I ordered a new light. It's on the way. Can I get reimbursement for that now? Or just return the light and let the dealer deal with it? I did glue the bolt in as I had to reassemble it until the new part arrives.

MY 2016 - 2019 only. So I'd assume the 2020 and above model years have an updated part?

Technically I think 2018+ have the updated part already. But toyota adding 18-19 on there makes me wonder if some of the old parts got mixed in too.

On the bright side perhaps you were part of the catalyst that got Toyota to admit there is a problem with the light not sealing correctly.

They literally responded to my letter on Aug 11, so maybe it was the last straw and they decided to address it before it becomes a class action and they end up paying lawyers a whole lot more.

For those can't log into the site to check, I just spoke to the dealer and this is a real "campaign" and they have started to field calls about it. It's a bit of a pain as they have to reinspect my vehicle even though the just did and then order parts. I have a new light on order so I might just do it myself and get Toyota to reimburse for the parts. I should charge them for my labor too, but I'm guessing they won't go for that.

So no mileage on this one, just do it before the campaign expires right? I have no known issues with this, but if the campaign is good until 2025, I might just wait and see how it plays out.

I went onto Toyota's website and put my VIN# in and it kicked back the Frame Coating and the 3rd Brake Light, so you should be in on that too.

I already got my frame done. They just put the 2 caps on and told me to get lost. I didn't want the goop so I was pleasantly surprised.

I have my truck logged on the Toyota owners page so I check every now and again for something that pops up.

Pretty sure our 17's just get the caps. It has been explained to me before, but I forget the details of how the TSB is applied across the years. I really just wanted the extended warranty of the inspection.

I imagine my frame is worse than yours since I don't do anything on my truck other than wash it frequently in the winter. So you should get the same as I did, caps and a goodbye hug lol.
