I'm really wanting to Raptor Liner my fender flares but there's no way I'll do it with taping them off on a white truck. All the videos I see on YouTube talk about taking them off, but never putting them back on. They say that the clips inevitably get broken, but do I need them? Will the adhesive reinstall or do I need more? Thanks.

Watching this thread. I have a flare I need to either reinstall (with the top two tabs broken off) or replace all four. I ordered a set of aftermarkets but the hardware wasn't right so I set it back.

There’s no adhesive holding the flares on. It’s just clips and a couple bolts near the lower edges.

the clips are prone to breaking but so are the female recesses on the inside of the flare where the clips insert. They’re delicate, sure, but if you’re super careful you might get away with few casualties.

Definitely adhesive plus clips holding the rears on my truck. I’m going to clean up the old adhesive residue and reinstall with a clean bead of silicone caulk on the inside of the flare

There is a thin double sided tape/adhesive that runs the edge of the flare to seal it to the fender from the factory, then there are the blue and yellow clips.

I would not use silicone. Call a dealer and ask for the flare pads. They are about 8$ each but are double sided tape and meant to fit the flare to the fender. Clean off the old residue first real well

You need clips. The tape won't hold. You can buy clips on Amazon, there are 2 different styles -blue (short) and I think (red)longer. Pull parts drawing to see the part #
Also M3 1/4 automotive tape works great. Available on Amazon

I'm thinking of vinyl wrapping mine, but have been hesitant since lack of good video showing removal and reattachment process. Plus those suckers are $pendy if a mistake is made...

You don’t even need the clips, the 3m 1/4 inch automotive double sided tape holds perfectly fine along with the screws along the bottom part of the flares and inside the upper wheel wells. There have been many guys who’ve installed flares on non flared SR Tacoma’s without clips at all, including myself. The 3M tape holds firm since it’s made for automotive applications. Lots of tuners use it along with screws just like the Tacoma flares to add body kits to their Honda’s and Acura’s. There’s a great link on tacomaworld titled. “Adding flares to non-flared trucks” which will demonstrate how the tape is applied along with pics and a parts list if you need it. Just remove your flare, clean off your original double sided tape and re apply the new stuff. If your missing a clip or two no big deal.

Yeah, the 3M tape is definitely enough to hold the flares on their own. Added flares to my previous '18 SR and they lasted 3 years before I took them off myself. Even after all that time the adhesive was still strong.

I did this a few months ago. Definitely get the OEM adhesive. It’s fitted to the shape of the flare. I tried using a roll of 3M and it wasn’t as clean. I would also recommend buying a bag of the clips. I was careful and still broke a few. Other than that it’s a simple job, just take your time during the prep work!

Best way to reinstall the flares is to take the clips out of the fender and pop them into the fender flare and then install the fender flare on the fender. You may have to buy some new clips because some can break

Why not consider wrapping instead? Prolly more $ but you dont have to remove them. I like the black fender look so am thinking of going the wrap route.

Raptor lined fenders are a great idea. I did mine.

hopefully while removing you don’t break off any of the clip mounting points jn the fender. I haven’t taken a 3rd Gen set off yet but I broke a few off on my 2nd gen. But it’s an easy fix with some sand paper to clean up the area, CA glue and some either canvas fabric or fiberglass to use as a structural patch.

Whoever says their is no adhesive just needs to look at the photos in this thread and you can clearly see the double sided tape so to the OP yes there is adhesive tape, do you need it for the re-install. Nope sure don't but of course you can purchase some aftermarket double sided tape if you feel its needed.

And yes you WILL break the clips, order the blue & orange replacement clips in advance.
