Hello everyone i am thinking of trading my 19 classic v6 ram 1500 for a 21 tacoma since i live in Canada the tacoma are lot more expensive the base model sr double cab v6 is 41k Cad plus tax
leaving me to pay 13k plus my ram which i only lost 1100 on it.

My question is are the tacomas worth that much more to pay and are there reliable as people say?

Welcome to TW. Keep in mind that this is a Tacoma forum so opinions will tend to be a bit biased towards our trucks :) That said, only you can answer the "is it worth it" question. I had a Ram 1500 with the hemi a few years back. There were a few annoying warranty issues but nothing major. The same can't be said for my Jeep Grand Cherokee, so I'm not too wild about all things Chrysler. My biggest complaint about the Ram was the amount of gas it sucked, and getting that big truck into tight spots was a pain. In any case, when I went looking for a truck this time around I decided on the Tacoma because I didn't need the capabilities of a full size pickup (I will mainly be using this truck for towing around 3,000 lbs or less), all the Toyota vehicles I or my family have owned have been very reliable, Toyota build quality is excellent IMHO, and a mid-sized pickup would be better on gas and easier to maneuver. While I've only had my 21 Sport for 3 months I love the truck so far. Do keep in mind that this is not the best time to be buying any vehicle given the supply issue, so that same market that got you a premium trade-in value is going to take that money back from you when you buy.

Test drive it … I would wait till prices go back to normal if that will happen anytime soon . I have the off road in a manual . It’s slow as a mofo . Has random howling and whistling noises . Not the best street vehicle . Great off roader .

Are they worth more? Yes they sell for more lol. Jk.

I do think the fit and finish is better on Tacoma’s. And they have more quality interiors, but not as many gadgets.

reliable, sure. As long as you take care of the car with proper maintenance.

There's posts on here of people having these trucks for 300,000+ miles with no major issues outside of routine/preventative maintenance. I would say as long as you take care of the truck, the truck will also take care of you.

Mostly 340,000 miles of wear on the '96. A sharp looking Gasshole for the '21
As a current owner of a 334K (mile) '96 I'm a huge fan due to my positive experiences and high reliably . My new 2021 is a bit fancy pants for my taste with lots of interweb and cell phone stuff and do-hickies that I have no value for, but I'm old and I like hand crank windows. On this forum you'll see lots of raw data on real world experiences and failures. When I exclude the abuse or extreme-use class of failures I conclude that aside from the frame rust failures the later Gen. Tacos are above average but not perfect. I do plan to inspect and coat my frame just in case that issue is not 100% squared away. I also plan to keep an eye on this forum and study any failures that happen to owners with my style of use. The market seems to agree that Tacoma are worth a premium, but every not every buyer buys a truck that he plans to love long time, some like shiny or a cool look at the mall. Study other brands, Youtube is full of bad engine tear down videos that point the way on other brands. Good luck - no promises, at a minimum there are lots of happy Tacoma owners willing to help with opinions and information.

They are so reliable that I can honestly say that it might be the last gasoline powered vehicle I will ever buy if nobody totals it.

I bought a 2021 as well and concur with OnHartung'sRoad, it will be the last new vehicle I buy....

My son will inherit a nice truck, and according to my doctors sooner than I'd like for that to happen LOL...

It's all downhill from here they say.... right.... it's the destination I'm not so excited about LOL ...

No doubt on the son inheriting a nice truck. We gave our son a 2013 (paid off) TRD OR DCSB with 80k miles when he turned 16. He won't have to buy a new vehicle for a LONG time. I've told him it is like a rolling savings account the way they maintain their value. He loves it even now that he is 20 and has zero plans to sell or trade it in.

I had a v6 ram and the tacoma at the same time. Both new. The ram really put your balls in your back pocket. Tons of get up and go. But i found it electrically buggy. Always something wrong. The tacoma doesnt have the pick up the ram did. But i do prefer the tacoma. Not sure if that helps. But since ive owned both, i felt i can have a relevant response.

Wife told me last evening a tow company came with a flat bed to pick up my neighbors 2020 ram 1500. Don't know anything whats up, but if its a truck issue he's gotta be pissed. He traded in a 2015 silverado that they couldn't eliminate the chevy shake issue....now this. At least its warrantied.

Whats the deal with Canadian Tacos being so expensive?

Taxes? Import restrictions? Toyota trying to stick it to the Leafs?

Doctors are pessimistic. Get a 2nd opinion before any triple bypass. I have issue's with an irregular heartbeat at times that was undiagnosed till i suffered a stroke. They gave me a concoction of pills, and recommended a pace maker. No way did i go for this after the pills made me feel worse. Instead been taking a baby aspirin, and a fish oil capsule everyday. Been 7 years now, and 95% recovered feeling well.
