Years ago I left my then truck running outside a big chain store came back out just a couple of minutes later and some woman asked if that was my truck and said she had just called the police on me.

Yes it against the law to leave a vehicle running unattended but geesh lady its not like my truck was there for any amount of time.

FYI, my battery was failing and I had already called AAA earlier that day and was not going to use up another AAA call just for a jump start. Also was not close enough to home to have just swapped the battery or grabbed the jumper cables.

 

Busybody's are everywhere. A few years ago someone called my office to report that my idling Diesel Bucket Truck was filling their house with exhaust fumes and that the driver (me) was refusing to turn it off. My boss put the call on hold and called me on the other line to ask what was going-on. I explained that I was in the middle of making a repair to a street light; I was 30' in the air in the bucket (which needs the engine running at a fast-idle in order to operate). No one had approached me with any complaints about what I was doing. My boss laughed then told me why he was asking and told me to continue with what I was doing. He went-back to the line with the Homeowner on it and explained that I was working and needed the truck running in order to make the repairs. By this time the Homeowner was irate because he said that he'd just watched the guy in the bucket stop working to talk on the phone for five minutes LOL!

We played that phone call at our Christmas Party that year
