Sept 11 here for archery. 4 weeks of that, then a week of muzzleloader, then rifle. No does on public land. They’ve been doing that for the last 3 years. Can kill does on private property all 4 weeks of archery, all week with muzzleloader, and like 4 days with rifle.

On my way to work yesterday morning at 4AM, I spotted the 2 suburban thugs bout a block from my house.
Amazing how many large ,nocturnal bucks live in a densely populated area and are rarely seen.

    Yessir.
    SW Ct. yard slobs.

Ten years ago I noticed an early season scrape under my black gum tree on my front lawn.
Set up the camera. Scrape kept getting bigger.
By end of December I counted about 30 different bucks from spike heads to 12 pointers.
By the end, scrape was about 4 ft long and about 3 inches deep.
25 feet from my front door.

Our lick from last year, two years now I guess (lucky buck) has been getting a lot of action. I didn't have any more but I put a couple pounds of rock salt and a big thing of Kool aid mix on it and a camera yesterday, we got a quick rain shower today so it should be all soaked in now

Deer and elk open sep 4th for archery. Drew an archery elk tag. Its looking pretty sad out there though, dry as hell and fires everywhere. Haven't had much time to scout, even when I did get out it was near 90 degrees and that was no fun. Wife drew a rifle antelope tag this year, should be interesting. She said she wants to do all the "work" this year. Wonder if that means I get to sleep-in in the camper opening morning, probably not.

The deer like the Kool aid lick btw. Got 40 pics in 1 week and these two youngins hung out for about 30 mins right at sun up yesterday. That widest one would make my wife's day if it stepped in front of her this fall and either would be a great first deer for my daughter... But if they live another year or two I won't be upset lolIMG_20210814_211156_665.jpg IMG_20210814_112702_068.jpg

I used about 2# of rock salt and a contain of tropical punch Kool aid power. I was worried about ants because there is a decent amount of sugar in it even with them swapping out some sugar for artificial sweeteners but it rained about an hour after I put it out and I think it all melted into the ground good enough for the ants to leave it alone

Some air rifles fill from SCUBA tanks, and if you have a place nearby that can fill them, I have heard it works pretty good. Also, some fire departments can fill them. They have high pressure compressors to fill their SCBA tanks.

Finally had a decent deer show up. And an absolute giant spike.

I'm in a similar boat this season. New job and new born have completely sucked the life out of my summer. Gonna be tough being a weekend warrior for archery elk out here. Have a bear tag add on in my pocket as well.
