    There is a proprietry Sony cable with the PS3 end and all 5 of the component connections on the other end , this should have come with your console. Do you still have the box or this cable somewhere.

    red/white/yellow is composite. component is red/green/blue for video and red/white for sound. it will handle the hd of 720 and 1080. i think composite will only do up to 420, IIRC.

    it is....but only came with the a/v cable. and i looked in the manual...it said that the component cable is sold separately.

    if i get a component cable.....will i be able to watch blu ray movies and all....and it still look "hd"?? and still play my games too?

    I have an old 80 gig fat , mine came with component but not hdmi , I guess the new consoles don't come with the component anymore .

    Yes , component is capable of 1080p which is the resolution of Blurays . The picture will be the same as Hdmi .
