Passenger Door Smart Key System

@kmorgan3 @caribe makaira is that the right color pairing? I thought it was Yellow/Yellow-Black Stripe. Is that the pair from 2020-21?

 

Yellow is the driver’s side. Green and brown (not black; I only had black in 20) is the color for the passenger addition.

It is broken in 2 parts to facilitate easier wire running

Color really is for mating in parallel the tapped wires.

 

Next up is verifying terminals at Certification ECU. (Both ends) For an OEM install...sort of.

Oh, I got that. I certainly understand the logic behind it.

 

Just installed the passenger door handle and it works perfectly.
Also you dont have to run and splice wire. This kit has a plug in wire harness that makes it really easy to install.
All you need is T30 torx, phillips screw driver, and some electrical tape. Took about an hour to install.

I fished the cable behind the brackets in the door to make sure it wont get snagged by the window. It cut up my hands a little trying to get it through. Easily pulled it through the grommet and then used some longer zip ties to pull it behind the radio. Zip tied everything. Works perfectly.
This is just another feature that should have been standard by Toyota and they cheaped out for no reason. My lexus has the touch door handles on both the driver and passenger sides, I dont get why an expensive truck did not come with the same thing.

The only thing they leave out of the video is what is a good spot to fish the cable through. I fished it behind the radio (there was really only one obvious gap under there) and zip tied it underneath the dash to other wires.

Was thinking I was going to have to do this mod on my 22, but was very pleasantly surprised when it showed up and already had it! Had no idea when I ordered it. Mostly my wife that is happy, very convenient for her.

 

Did the swap tonight and it wasn't too bad to do. Glad I have small hands.

Just got to get new clips for the kick panels.

 

When I follow the link for the handle it sends me to a page that says it’s for the front left door. Does this matter or not bc all I would have to do is flip it and it’ll work?

 

Yes it can be installed L or R

 

In 2017 the Tacoma didnt come with a passenger side smart handle so you will only find the driver side one available. And yes, if you flip over the driver side handle; it fits on the passenger side.

 

Just put it on this weekend and am STOKED!!!

 

This is awesome. Didn't even know these existed. For my initial install I used T taps but after a couple weeks it stopped working, assuming the T tap came loose. Will order posi taps!

Or simply order the harness from @kmorgan3 who is both capable and it will be better made. There are several harness makers in the TW world who originated these ideas.
