Yea, I think i have my solution, I'll just use the portable speaker for audio. I'll use the output on the monitor since it carries through the signal. that way I don't have to have the controller right under the monitor the whole time.

Going to class is not optional. But I structured my schedule how I think I'll like it.
    upload_2021-8-14_18-20-15.jpg

Mon and Wed are full, Friday not too bad. Tuesdays and Thursdays are freedom.

But yes, having my monitor that is acting as a TV work how I want, is very important.

Doesn’t look too bad. So Tuesday and Thursday are the days your heavy trading will swing the markets. I’ll write that down

First. I think It'll be good. Looking forward to actually starting classes not all these obnoxious awkward forced "transition" events that they make us do. I don't know of anyone yet who likes them lol.

beautiful area. get up and check out incline village and monkey rock for a cool hike. not sure if you handle any pew-pews, if so I can PM you some dropped pins for spots that were easy to reach and on BLM land.

Oh now you’ve done it. @kairo crystal/rock hunts too and he’s probably more annoyed that he can’t chime in about that than $GME!

All the talk of ARC and eARC made me realize my new TV has an eARC port for a soundbar. My current 8 year old sound bar is hooked up via optical since it has no eARC HDMI. That means I can't get Dolby Atmos or any high-res audio to the soundbar. That means, you guessed it, new soundbar.

So, for the home theater guys in the group, here's what I need.

    Dolby Atmos
    4K passthrough.
    At least 2 HDMI ins.
    Under $1000.

    What you got?

    yea....i've got a devon A/V receiver that's like 7.2 capable...it's old now...but still is pretty sweet.
I'm just running two towers mostly for music...but it does pretty good for home theater...really want a center channel (for dialogue track)...and a sub...but those somehow always get kicked to the bottom of the buying list.

For sure man. I'm an audiophile from way back but I do almost all my music through cans or buds. So for the TV audio I've always been fine with a 5.1. Then I just made the mistake of actually looking at how far TV audio has come in the last 10 years. That lead me to needing, not wanting, Dolby Atmos. That's gonna require at least a 9.1.4 system and I'll most likely get that Samsung at 11.1.4.

The TV will support it natively but having a sound bar that has a chip capable of upscaling just also became a need. I could go the AV receiver route and I still might. It just seems sound bars with Atmos support have come very close to being able to replicate true ceiling mount speakers. To do a proper AV system puts me in the attic pulling wire. An Atmos sound bar avoids all of that.

From all the reviews I'm reading the Samsung seems like it's the best choice.

Vizio also has the Elevate which is cool but my old Vizio bar likes to lose the satellites in the middle of a damn movie.

There's also the Nakamichi Shockwafe at 9.2.4 but I'm not sure whether I want to deal with 2 subs.

I kinda answered that above but here's a more complete answer.

Will even an 11.1.4 soundbar with a sub and 2 satellites match a true AV receiver with reference speakers and an amp? Fuck no. Will it make everyone but true audiophiles go "Holy shit"? Fuck yeah. lol

yea...plus i do see the allure of a 'simpler' and (less $$$ all in) set up for sure...
even two bookshelf speakers and sub will go a long way...
now you've got me thinking about a soundbar hahaha
